Duval took Tiger Woods' number one spot with a dazzling start to 1999, which included a round of 59 and four victories. But since losing weight and suffering a succession of injuries, he hasn't hit the same heights. He hinted at the old Duval with a brilliant second to Woods in the US Masters and was in contention for the first three days at the US Open so he has the ability to raise his game at major time. In six Opens he's had four top 20s, including a tied 14th at Lytham in 1996, so his bid to lose the dreaded Best Player Not To Have Won A Major Tag could easily come on British soil. At St Andrews last year he got to within three of Woods during the final round before finally being shook off. Once his winning chance had gone he took four to get out of the Road Hole bunker and slipped back to 11th. Don't be surprised to see him emerge as Tiger's biggest threat again.
