FULKE FADES ON FINAL ROUND
Pierre Fulke's welcome return to form came to an abrupt end in the final round
at Royal Lytham.
Fulke began the day just one shot off the lead on five under par, easily his
best performance since finishing runner-up in the World Matchplay in Melbourne
in January, a result which guaranteed his place in the Ryder Cup team.
The 30-year-old cited personal problems this year for his worrying slump in
form but seemed to be close to his best after rounds of 69, 67 and 72.
But playing alongside fellow Swede and potential Ryder Cup team-mate Jesper
Parnevik, he collapsed to a closing 83, 12 over par, that left him in a tie for
62nd place.
Bogeys at the first four holes set the tone for a bad day that got worse with
an awful eight on the par three 12th, the same hole where Tiger Woods took a
triple bogey six, and which all added up to 39 shots for the front nine and an
inward half of 44.
