Tiger Woods (69): "I can definitely play better. I'm
playing well right now but there are some loose shots I hit out there, and some
of the things I'm working on are starting to become more natural.
"I was fortunate enough to win the US Open at Pebble Beach and to have a
chance to complete the Slam here was very special.
"I putted well and some of the shots I was hitting today coming down the
stretch I felt very good hitting them. I putted well and I was able to bring it
home."
Ernie Els (69): "Even if I had really played as good as I could I don't think I would have
got to 19 under like Tiger so you have to give credit to him.
"When you are in a position
like I was today I had to keep that level of play up the whole day the way I
started the first five holes.
"It's hard to do that all the time. You're happy to make those birdies, but
you know you've got to make even more.
"You try and push yourself harder and harder and you start pushing to hard
before you start trying too hard and I think that was my case today.
"I guess we just try too hard instead of playing it and enjoying it like
Tiger, but we don't all have his ability so it is tough at times."
David Duval (75): "Obviously I'm disappointed with the finish. I thought that what I accomplished on the front nine was probably exactly what I needed to do, really cut the deficit and then just start in from there.
"Just as everything turned good on the front nine, that's as bad as everything turned on the back.
"He (Woods) simply did not make mistakes and capitalised on the holes you would expect him to. We spoke some obviously but at the same time he was intent on accomplishing what he wanted to do and I was intent on trying to prevent him from doing so."
Darren Clarke (73): "I sunk some great putts early on but after that it just didn't
seem to go for me.
"It was great fun, but it just didn't happen for me and I didn't make another
putt which was really frustrating.
"I wanted to finish second and felt that I could get close to that and finish
strongly which is the most disappointing thing of the lot. I will now go away
and try and find my golf swing."
Nick Faldo (71): (After increasing his record of sub-par rounds in the Open) "I was level with Jack (Nicklaus) on 33 at the start of the week, so I've gone three ahead now.
"I'm hoping to have some more yet, so it might take Tiger another 10 years to catch me."
Colin Montgomerie (70): "I've got two options. I can sit back and think well okay I'm quite good and I'll just continue what I'm doing or try and improve and that's what I'm always
trying to do and will do.
"I'll go away and practice and come back a better putter. Whether I take a
few of weeks off or do what ever I have to do but I am going to practice it and I am determined to get it right.
"I have been disappointed in my performances in the Majors this season but I
have still got a chance at Valhalla, but I will go away and lose some weight."
Ian Woosnam (75): "I'm going to take a week off and start again and I'll maybe go and have a few beers.
"I played quite well today actually but got caught in couple of traps that absolutely screwed up my round.I only hit two bad shots all the way round so I was quite happy."
"We tried something different and it seemed to work, but obviously I didn't score very good.""
Tom Watson (73): "Tiger has raised the bar to a level that only he can jump.
"If somebody can beat him they are going to have to have to put some rubber or something in the bottom of their shoes to be able to jump over that bar.
"It will take something supernatural because the young man is playing golf supernaturally. Only time will tell if he can become the greatest. He wants to be the best player who has ever played the game."
Lee Westwood (75): (Showing relief at the 18th after a disappointing weekend) "Finished!"
