FINISH: Well that's it from Hockenheim. Join us next Sunday for the Hungarian GP
FINISH: A rather subdued celebration for Alonso as he crossed the line says it all
FINISH: Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button bring it home for McLaren ahead of Mark Webber, Robert Kubica, Nico Rosberg, Michael Schumacher and Vitaly Petrov
FINISH: Felipe Massa is second ahead of Sebastian Vettel
FINISH: And Fernando Alonso wins the German GP - if you can call it a victory
Lap 67: Last lap for Alonso, Massa and Vettel
Lap 66: Massa has again pulled away from Vettel as he looks to secure Ferrari's first 1-2 since Bahrain
Lap 66: And another fastest for Alonso
Lap 65: Another fastest lap for Alonso, a 1:16.103
Lap 64: Hamilton is finally told he can put his foot down because he doesn't need to save fuel any more... now that he's 20.5s behind the guy in front, Vettel
Lap 63: Alonso is flying again. Ferrari need this otherwise their team orders will look even worse than they already do... and they look bad already
Lap 62: Kovalainen calls it quits after his coming together with de la Rosa
Lap 61: Vettel is closing in on Massa, just one second between the two
Lap 60: De la Rosa pits for a new front now
Lap 60: Someone's bodywork is lying on the kerb. It is de la Rosa's, which explains why he is dropping
Lap 59: Petrov is giving a lesson in how to change gears and is told that the team will have to turn his revs down if he doesn't use seventh
Lap 58: De la Rosa tries to slide by Barrichello but instead falls back into Hulkenberg's clutches
Lap 57: Vettel is now quickest of all but he's still 2.6s behind Massa
Lap 56: De la Rosa, having overtaken Hulkenberg, is now chasing down Barrichello for 12th place
Lap 55: Alonso is doing his best to prove Ferrari right in their call and puts in a new fastest lap
Lap 54: Alonso already has a lead of more than two seconds over Massa
Lap 53: Kobayashi and Hulkenberg are having some fun and games and have a minor coming together through the hairpin
Lap 52: De la Rosa finally stops. He comes out in 14th place
Lap 52: Smedley said "sorry"
Lap 51: Wow. That was so obvious it was ridiculous
Lap 50: And Alonso goes by Massa... it couldn't get any easier
Lap 49: Can anyone say 'team orders'?
Lap 49: "So Fernando is faster than you? Can you confirm you understand that message?"
Lap 48: Problems for Webber, who is told his car is chowing through oil. Will he see the end of the race?
Lap 47: The gap - or lack thereof - between Massa and Alonso is notable
Lap 46: De la Rosa has still to pit! Wow!
Lap 45: Schumacher is now in tenth place so should be on track for at least one point in his home race
Lap 44: The last four drivers in the race are di Grassi, Glock, Kovalainen and Senna
Lap 43: This is not the most exciting race. Yes, great battle between the Ferraris for lap times but exciting, not really
Lap 42: Vettel is now flying and does a new fastest lap
Lap 41: Webber is told 'do not lift on the straight' by the chaps on his pit wall
Lap 40: De la Rosa, Di Grassi and Glock are the only drivers who have yet to stop
Lap 39: Alonso again gains ground on Massa, this time with the help of some traffic
Lap 38: Another flier from Alonso and he takes half a second out of Massa's lead
Lap 37: Button is just 0.6s ahead of Webber and is having to play a defensive game to keep the Aussie at bay
Lap 36: Sutil is having fun and games and runs off the track onto the gravel. He pits for new rubber
Lap 35: Hulkenberg comes in for his first stop and drops all the way down to 14th place
Lap 34: De la Rosa, who has yet to stop, overtakes Hulkenberg, who has also still to stop, through the hairpin and is up into seventh place
Lap 33: Hamilton and Button are still fourth and fifth ahead of Webber
Lap 32: These Ferrari drivers are having fun and, more importantly, are pulling away from Vettel
Lap 31: Alonso goes even quicker than Massa
SKYBET: Massa 4/7 with Skybet now, while Alonso is 5/4 and Vettel is 16/1 - will Ferrari intervene?
Lap 30: Massa does a 1:17.991 to pull 3.2s ahead of Alonso
Lap 29: What went wrong for Schumacher? He was P8 before the stops, is now P11 with two drivers ahead of him still to stop. He definitely lost one place to Rosberg
Lap 28: Alonso responds with a fastest lap of his own
Lap 27: Massa does another new fastest lap, a 1:18.399
Lap 26: Massa has put in some blistering laps to etch out a lead over Alonso, who is fuming after their earlier battle. But at least with Massa finally going quicker, Alonso is getting away from Vettel
Lap 25: Rosberg pits and comes out right in front of Schumacher
Lap 24: So the Ferraris are back in front with Massa leading Alonso by 0.4s and Vettel in third place, a further 1.9s adrift
Lap 23: McLaren are out for Button. The Brit was leading but comes out in fifth place behind Hamilton
Lap 22: Even Coulthard agrees Ferrari need to get Massa to make way for Alonso as he's holding up his team-mate!
Lap 21: Traffic is causing problems for the Ferrari and Alonso takes Massa's slipstream but the Brazilian somehow manages to hold him off. As for the traffic, which is in the middle of the Ferrari battle, that almost takes out Vettel!
Lap 20: Button is coming up to some traffic but that doesn't seem to be bothering the Brit as they get the blue flags and he slides right by. The Ferraris are next to face the traffic
Lap 19: Alonso needs to get ahead of Massa as the Brazilian is backing him into Vettel now
Lap 18: Kubica comes in for his stop and comes out in 11th place just ahead of Schumacher. The two are wheel to wheel and the Renault driver is blocking Schumacher brilliantly. And finally Schumacher has to back off
Lap 17: Of the top ten, Button, who is leading, Kubica, Rosberg, Petrov and Hulkenberg have yet to stop
Lap 16: Massa is pushing hard but locks up and Alonso close the gap. The Brazilian then gets out of shape into the hairpin and once again Alonso is right there
Lap 15: Schumacher has also pitted. He came out in 13th place
Lap 15: Massa pits and Hamilton pits. They come out P2 and P6
Lap 15: Webber comes out ahead of Kobayashi and the Japanese is all over the back of him. Kobayashi tries to take the position as Webber locks up but the Red Bull racer closes the door
Lap 14: Now it's Alonso's turn to pit and Webber comes in too. Alonso comes out fourth and Webber in P8
Lap 13: Vettel pits from third place and comes out in sixth
Lap 12: Kubica is falling away from Button while Schumacher is right on the Renault driver's tail - but has become the story too often this season, the Schumi just cannot overtake
Lap 11: Massa responds to Alonso's pace with a new fastest lap time of his own
Lap 10: Button appears to be having a few problems staying on the track, running wide at Turn 6. He has dropped three seconds to Webber
Lap 9: It appears Force India's double pit stop is because they put the wrong tyres on the wrong car. Under rules each car has its own set and Force India put Liuzzi's on Sutil's car and Sutil's on Liuzzi's car. Opps
Lap 8: Sutil has already been into the pits for a second time as has his team-mate Liuzzi... not a great start for Force India
Lap 7: Alonso sets another new fastest lap, two in a row now, as he chases down Massa
Lap 6: And Trulli is back in the grand prix. No one seems to stay retired these days
Lap 5: Buemi has officially retired after his first lap accident with his team-mate, Alguersuari, who drove into the back of the Swiss driver
Lap 4: Both Barrichello and Hulkenberg dropped three places on the first lap. Williams really need to do something about their starts
Lap 3: Trulli makes his way back to the pits while Massa begins to etch out a lead over Alonso with a fastest lap
Lap 2: So it's a Ferrari 1-2 in Germany with Massa ahead of Alonso. And Jarno Trulli is coming to an end as he slowly trawls around the track
Lap 2: Alguersuari is also in the pits and almost takes out Sutil as he leaves
Lap 1: And there is debris on the track from Sutil and Buemi, who came together
Lap 1: Schumacher is up to eighth place already ahead of Rosberg. Button is sixth and Kubica is seventh
Lap 1: Vettel tries to put Alonso into the wall but instead loses out to Massa, who takes the lead and Alonso goes up to second. Hamilton is up to fourth place, having take Webber
START: And it's go in Germany!
13H03: The grid reforms and now we wait for the lights
13H00: The formation lap is underway and everyone gets off the grid without problems
12H57: A quick drink for Schumacher and he is ready for the start of the formation lap
12H56: Air temperature is 21'C and the track temperature is 33'C
12H52: The massive crowd here today throws up a Mexican wave as the drivers as Martin Whitmarsh chats to Mika Hakkinen on the grid
12H45: Pit lane is now closed
12H41: Alonso, chasing his first victory since the season-opening Bahrain GP, arrives on the grid
SKYBET: "Sebastien Vettel would usually be a solid odds-on favourite from Pole Position around Hockenheim, but with weather threatening to shake up the order today, the German is even money to win this afternoon with Skybet. Alonso has been very popular in the betting, and he's into 7/4 to get back in the winners enclosure, while Massa can be backed at 14/1 - the same price as Hamilton and Button. With the weather forecasts changing by the minute, expect plenty of fluctuation in the odds over the next 30minutes."
12H36: It is cloudy overhead, however, as things stand no rain is forecast for today's race - but that could yet change
12H33: Schumacher is one of the first out as is Webber
12H30: Pit lane is open
12H17: Michael Schumacher, German's most successful F1 driver, is lining up P11 ahead of Kamui Kobayashi, Vitaly Petrov, Pedro de la Rosa, Jaime Alguersuari, Seb Buemi, Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen, Adrian Sutil, Bruno Senna, Tonio Liuzzi, Sakon Yamamoto, Lucas di Grassi and Timo Glock
12H16: Next in line is Mark Webber and the two McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, followed by Robert Kubica, Rubens Barrichello, Nico Rosberg and Nico Hulkenberg
12H13: Behind him are the two Ferraris with Fernando Alonso ahead of Felipe Massa - Ferrari's best qualifying of the season. Today also marks a year since Massa almost lost his life in Hungarian qualifying so he'll be wanting a good result to prove he is back
12H11: So the grid is as follows, Sebastian Vettel is starting from pole position and should have the backing of this German crowd who want to see a home-town boy win
12H03: The race takes place over 67 laps around the Hockenheim circuit, totaling 306.458kms
12H00: Welcome to coverage of the German Grand Prix, round 11 of the 2010 F1 World Championship
