We haven't got to the bottom of this one yet. We certainly understand that it's a Russian corporation which is interested in buying Jaguar.
It is a man called Alexander Shnaider, who is combining his interest in property with his interest in Canadian steel and Russian steel and so on, and tying up also with a company called Dellara, an Italian racing car manufacturer, who have been hugely successful in producing Formula Three cars, Formula 3000 cars, and were briefly in Formula One in the late '80s and early '90s. They do have a lot of credibility in the name Dellara.
We have yet to see exactly what Midland are going to do, whether they are going to set up their own team with Dellara or bring Dellara in with them and take over Jaguar.
Rumours are rife but they do seem to have confirmed that they are coming in to Formula One for 2005 - next season.
It is a quick turnaround; hence the speculation points to them buying Jaguar who already have the factory, already have the staff, already have the expertise, but the big question will be over where they get their engine from, because Cosworth, who supply the engine to Jaguar and is also owned by Ford, is also up for sale.
