Sauber driver Perez, who will be switching to McLaren next season as replacement for Lewis Hamilton who is joining Mercedes, is struggling with a heavy cold.
The Mexican has been forced to cancel all of his media commitments for today, instead returning to the team hotel after initially making his way to the Buddh International Circuit, in a bid to recuperate.
Sauber will assess Perez's fitness tonight, and again tomorrow should there be no improvement, before making a decision on whether he will be fit to drive in the two 90-minute sessions.
If Perez fails to make a sufficient enough recovery, it will pave the way for reserve driver, and fellow Mexican in Esteban Gutierrez, to be handed his maiden practice opportunity with the team.
