  • Thank you for your company. I will leave you with this question. Is Webber now the No 1 at Red Bull? Answers on a postcard please. Or an email or the Forum.

  • The result means Webber has closed the gap to Alonso in the Championship to 13 points. Vettel will overtake Hamilton in third place.

  • Alonso finishes second and Vettel claims the final podium position. They are followed home by Massa, Raikkonen, Grosjean, Schumacher, Hamilton, Senna and Button.

  • Webber becomes the second driver to win two races this season. He started celebrating well before the chequered flag there.

  • Webber eases closer to the finish line. Great, great strategy from Red Bull today.

    Lap 52
  • Senna has a look at the Force India of Hulkenberg and he makes it stick. Button also wants a peace of the action and he also makes a clean pass. The McLaren driver is up to P10.

    Lap 52
  • Massa is told 'you can do this' has Raikkonen is now less than a second behind the Ferrari driver. The Lotus driver has posted back-to-back fastest laps, but he runs wide and that gives the Brazilian breathing space.

    Lap 51
  • Raikkonen is P5 and he is followed by Grosjean, Schumacher, Hamilton, Hulkenberg, Senna and Button.

    Lap 51
  • Webber immediately sets the fastest lap as he moves clear of the Ferrari. Vettel is very comfortable in P3 with Massa looking good for his best finish this season.

    Lap 50
  • That was brilliant work on the track from Webber and off the track from his engineer. The Australian was told that Alonso has used all his Kers and Webber took full advantage.

    Lap 50
  • Webber is very close this time. He is told that Alonso used all his Kers. The Australian goes on the outside and he holds the Ferrari off.

    Lap 49
  • While we were watching Alonso and Webber, Schumacher overtook Hamilton on the outside for P7.

    Lap 49
  • They are back in the DRS zone, but this time there is not traffic. Alonso, though, is too clever as he uses his Kers and Webber drops off again.

    Lap 48
  • The front two are into the DRS zone, but there is traffic in the way at the moment. Alonso's left front tyre is degrading quite badly.

    Lap 47
  • Button has a go at Senna, but he can't make it stick.

    Lap 47
  • It is game on at the front of the grid as Webber has closed the gap to Alonso to 1.3s. We still have seven laps to go.

    Lap 46
  • We are into the DRS zone and Hulkenberg and Senna are under attack from Button. The Force India and Williams drivers hold firm.

    Lap 45
  • Ron Atkinson, who is a massive McLaren fan, is once again at Silverstone. He doesn't look very impressed at the moment.

    Lap 45
  • Schumacher appears to have closed the gap on Hamilton in P8. Button, meanwhile, is right on Senna's tail in P11. Hulkenberg at the front is starting to look into his mirrors.

    Lap 44
  • Webber is starting to lap quicker than Alonso at the moment. The gap is just 3.5s. The track is heating up though as Massa, Raikkonen and Grosjean all set new fastest laps in the space of a few seconds.

    Lap 43
  • The field is pretty spread at the moment. Vettel is 5.4s behind Webber, Massa is 4.1s off the Red Bull's pace while Raikkonen is a further 4.4s behind.

    Lap 43
  • Alonso is still lapping faster than Webber at the moment. He's not much quicker though so we could be in for an interesting finish to the British Grand Prix.

    Lap 42
  • More pit stop drama as Rosberg's stop is longer than usual following a problem with one of the jacks.

    Lap 41
  • Alonso, on softer tyres, and Webber - who is on the harder tyres - are going head-to-head now. Webber has been told that needs to push.

    Lap 40
  • Kobayashi went into the pits, but he didn't stop in his box and took out at least three of his pit crew members. It doesn't look too serious though, but we will keep an eye out for that.

    Lap 39
  • Webber and Red Bull need to keep the foot down as they need to stay on Alonso's tail. The Ferrari driver finally makes his second pit stop. He's on the softer tyre and rejoins in P1.

    Lap 39
  • Webber is really flying at the moment. He sets another fastest lap - a 1:35.954. Raikkonen goes better few seconds later with a 1:35.894.

    Lap 38
  • Alonso, who is yet to make his second pit stop, has a 20.1s advantage over second-placed Webber while Vettel is a further 4.9s behind his Red Bull team-mate.

    Lap 37
  • Who would've thought? Felipe Massa is in second place behind team-mate Alonso. Spoke too soon. Massa pits for a second time and he comes out in P4.

    Lap 37
  • Button lights up the timesheets with a 1:36.329. Raikkonen and Schumacher are into the pits. They stay on the harder tyres.

    Lap 36
  • Schumacher, who has slipped to P6, is having to go defensive as Kobayashi has a look. The Sauber driver fails to make it stick.

    Lap 35
  • Hamilton has a moan on the radio, saying they should've covered Grosjean during their pit stops. The Red Bull pit crew are out and Mark Webber is in. He stops for 3.3s and puts on harder compounds. He slots back out in P3.

    Lap 35
  • Grosjean is right on Hamilton's rear. He will be having a look any moment now. The Lotus driver puts a wheel in the dirt, but no harm done.

    Lap 34
  • Button makes his second and last stop for the race. He takes on the harder compound and is back in P14.

    Lap 33
  • Vettel stops for a second time and he drops to P5 after a 3.2s stop.

    Lap 33
  • Button, who is still to make a second stop, is next up for Hamilton. The 2009 Champ holds up his team-mate. Hamilton makes it stick at Copse and Grosjean follows suit.

    Lap 32
  • Rosberg, Hamilton and Grosjean are very close to each other. Hamilton makes the most of his fresh rubber and he passes the Mercedes. Grosjean does the same.

    Lap 31
  • Hamilton pits after a very short middle stint. He switches to harder tyres after spending 3.4s in the pits and rejoins in P10. His spent only eight laps on those softer tyres.

    Lap 30
  • The race appears to have settled down for the time being. Alonso is comfortable at the front.

    Lap 29
  • Perez's favourite driver, Maldonado, makes a clean pass on Glock at the back of the grid. The Williams driver is now up to P17 following his unscheduled stop after the Perez incident.

    Lap 28
  • Back to the race and Alonso has a five-second gap over Alonso. Just to prove that he is in a different class, he sets a new fastest lap of 1:37.042.

    Lap 27
  • I am still recovery from Perez's stinging criticism of Maldonado. It's been a long time since someone has come out and said something like that.

    Lap 26
  • Schumacher, Raikkonen and Hamilton are in the DRS zone. Raikkonen is the first to blink and he passes Schumacher. The McLaren driver is next and he also easily overtakes the Mercedes.

    Lap 26
  • Perez is being interviewed after his crash with Maldonado. The Mexican admitted that a lot of drivers 'have concerns' about the Venezuelan. Ouch!!! 'He's a very dangerous driver' and the 'guy never learns'.

    Lap 25
  • Hamilton has caught up with Schumacher and Raikkonen. He will soon be having a look at the Lotus of Raikkonen.

    Lap 24
  • With the pit stops out of the way, here's a look at the front of the pack. Alonso, Webber, Vettel, Massa, Schumacher, Raikkonen, Hamilton and Grosjean. Seb Vettel was the big winner during that round of stops and he is now ahead of Massa.

    Lap 23
  • Hamilton finally pits from second place. It's a clean one folks, don't worry. He was stationary for 2.8 and he rejoins in P7 behind Schumacher and Raikkonen and ahead of Grosjean.

    Lap 22
  • Hamilton is currently lapping in the 1:39s while those behind him - Webber and Raikkonen - are doing 1:38. The McLaren crew are out in the pit lane. De La Rosa is the only other driver who is yet to stop.

    Lap 22
  • Hamilton didn't really need to fight back so hard as he is yet to make a stop. You just wonder about McLaren's strategy though. He has already done 20 laps on this set of rubber.

    Lap 21
  • Alonso is now right behind the McLaren of Hamilton. Alonso goes on the incide, but he doesn't make it stick first time. It's second time lucky as the Spaniard goes past, but Hamilton doesn't quite want to let him go and uses DRS to overtake the Ferrari. Alonso has the last laugh as on his fresher tyres.

    Lap 20
  • Hamilton is leading, but he yet to stop. He is told that he shouldn't worry about Alonso behind him. The Ferrari driver has fresh rubber on and is well ahead of Webber.

    Lap 19
  • Button is close to Rosberg. They hit the DRS zone, but the Mercedes driver goes defensive. How long can he hold on? Button has another look at Copse, but the German keeps him out.

    Lap 19
  • Kobayashi is in the pits and Hulkenberg follows him in. Webber, meanwhile, sets a new fastest lap. McLaren are out for Button. The 2009 World Champion puts on softer tyres and rejoins in P12. Button lost out to Rosberg though.

    Lap 16
  • DRS has been enabled again. Massa and Raikkonen have pitted. Meanwhile, the stewards have confirmed that the Perez and Maldonado incident will be investigated after the race.

    Lap 15
  • Perez showing some frustration after he got out of his car. He kicked the ground. Replays showed he tried to go on the outside and Maldonado was nearly pushed off the track but then came back and they made contact.

    Lap 15
  • DRS has been disabled following that Perez-Maldonado shunt. Meanwhile, Schumacher pits and he changes to hard tyres.

    Lap 14
  • Maldonado and Perez are the next drivers to pit. We didn't see it on screen, but Massa has finally managed to get ahead of Schumacher after going on the incide. How quickly can he catch up to Webber though.

    Lap 13
  • Vettel is the first to blink from the front runners. His car was stationary for 3.5 seconds and switches to harder tyres. He is back out on the track, but has to start again from 15th position.

    Lap 12
  • Webber is told that Schumacher is holding up Massa and the rest of the pack. At the back of the grid, Grosjean takes a place from Glock following his early pit stop.

    Lap 12
  • Hamilton is having problems with his rears and Perez is right up his tail. The Sauber driver has a look on the inside, but the local hero goes on the defence.

    Lap 11
  • Webber has pulled away from the Schumacher-Massa scrap. The Ferrari driver is just not getting close enough to even make a move at this stage. The likes of Vettel, Raikkonen, Maldonado and Hamilton will also soon be having a look.

    Lap 10
  • Hamilton, meanwhile, is praised by his race editor. His 'pace is right up there'.

    Lap 9
  • Some instructions from Rob Smedley for Massa as they head to the DRS zone again. Back to the start of the race quickly, Vettel and Massa made contact at the start and some debris came flying off a car. Not sure whose car it was though.

    Lap 8
  • Massa has caught up with Schumacher, who is now 2.4s behind Webber. He is in DRS zone, but Schumacher holds firm for now.

    Lap 8
  • Raikkonen, Maldonado and Hamilton are in P6, P7 and P8 respectively and they are very close to each other.

    Lap 7

    Lap 7
  • Di Resta's race is over. He picked up the damage after being hit by Romain Grosjean on the opening lap.

    Lap 6
  • Go Felipe! He sets the fastest lap - a 1:39.749.

    Lap 6
  • Di Resta is forced to make another stop. He has suspension damage.

    Lap 5
  • DRS is now enabled. At the front of the race, Alonso still leads from Webber, Schumacher and Massa. The second Ferrari is under pressure from Vettel though. The Brazilian holds firm for a couple of corners. Maldonado and Raikkonen have caught up with the battle for P4.

    Lap 4
  • Di Resta is in the pits following his first-lap incident. Grosjean seems to have a problem and he is also in the pits and that allows Button to move into P12.

    Lap 3
  • Grosjean goes wide onto the grass and Button decides to take advantage.... they don't see Kobayashi behind them and the Sauber driver overtakes them both and claims P12. Raikkonen, meanwhile, passes Maldonado.

    Lap 2
  • Maldonado has moved ahead of Raikkonen and they are followed by Senna and Hamilton. Button, meanwhile, has moved up to P13.

    Lap 1
  • The lights go out at Silverstone and it's a good start from Alonso as he goes on the outside. Webber and Michael Schumacher are P2 and P3. Felipe Massa is the big winner as he pips Vettel to P4. Vettel is fighting back though. Paul di Resta is off the track already.

    GO! GO! GO
  • The formation lap is underway... The Ferrari of Alonso leads them around the track.

  • The race hasn't even started yet and we already have a retirement. Vitaly Petrov will not take part in the 2012 British GP due to an engine failure. We are down to 23 starters. Now wish I had money Caterham being the first retirement. I could've been rich.

  • Getting ready! Alonso, Button and Hamilton - to name just a few - have put their helmets on and are in their cars. It's time for action ladies and gentlemen.

  • Petrov's problems appear to be fatal for the race as there was apparently some oil leaking from his car. We haven't heard anything official yet.

  • Early problems for Vitaly Petrov? The race hasn't even started yet, in fact he hasn't even made it out of the pit lane, and smoke is already coming from the back of his Caterham. His mechanics are doing their best to sort out the issue.

  • Plenty of man love going on in F1 at the moment. Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have been praising each other at every available opportunity. Alonso and Hamilton have taken it a step further today and they have traded helmets. The Spaniard has just tweeted a picture. How sweeeettttt!

  • The pit lane is open now... but you knew that already I'm sure. The drivers are slowly but surely making their way to the grid.

  • Back to reality, it will apparently be a dry start to the race. Rain is only expected after an hour or so. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that's kinda disappointing. There is nothing like a wet track to spice things up.

  • I hope all of you have changed your Fantasy F1 teams for today's race. I have gone for the jugular. Well, I always go for the jugular and yet I always end up close to the back. All I will say is 'C'mon Schumacher!'.

  • Staying with the grid, you have Sergio Perez - who looked good for a P1 before qualifying was restarted following the heavy downpours - in P15 and Jenson Button a place behind. It's just not going for Jense at the moment, is it?

  • There have been a couple of changes to today's grid. Nico Hulkenberg qualified P9, but he will start in 14th place after changing his gearbox. Charles Pic has also changed is gearbox, but he will remain in 24th place. Kamui Kobayashi drops five places to 17th following his crash with Felipe Massa in Valencia while Jean-Eric Vergne will start in 23rd after being slapped with a 10-place penalty for crashing into Heikki Kovalainen a fortnight ago. And breathe out...that was a mouthful.

  • On-track 'buddies' Pastor Maldonado and Lewis Hamilton are seventh and ninth respectively. How long before they make contact today? Let's hope they stay out of trouble today.

  • Enough of the weather - for now at least. Let's turn our attention to matters on the track. Fernando Alonso ended his and Ferrari's pole position drought yesterday as he claimed P1 for the first time since the 2010 Singapore GP. The Red Bull of Mark Webber will start next to him on the grid. On the second row of the grid we have the resurgent Michael Schumacher and World Champion Sebastian Vettel. The other Ferrari of Felipe Massa and Lotus' Kimi Raikkonen are behind them.

  • Welcome folks, it's been a wet weekend at Silverstone - well across the whole of Britain - so far. The sun has been out this morning, but don't get too happy as it is expected to get gloomy over the Northamptonshire any moment now. Sit tight.

  • Brollies? Check! Raincoat? Check! Wellies? Check! Car pass park? Check! Tickets? Check! If you have all these then you must be at Silverstone. If you are not there yet then you must be stuck in the traffic... let us know how that is going.
