Belgian star Marc Wilmots was left frustrated by the refereeing mistake which robbed him of the biggest moment of his career.

Wilmots appeared to head the Red Devils into the lead against Brazil in their second round World Cup match but Jamaican official Peter Prendergast ruled that he had fouled a defender and wiped the effort off.

Brazil then scored twice in the second half to claim a 2-0 win.

"I don't understand why my goal was disallowed," he said.

"I didn't commit a foul. At half-time the referee came up to me and apologised after having seen the images on TV. All very nice, but what value has it?"

Wilmots, thus, drew the curtains on his international career.

"It is a nice farewell, but the result could have been better," he said.

"I will miss the Red Devils, but I've made up my mind. I have given a lot, and received a lot in return."
