Young midfielder who won a late call-up to the Sweden squad as a replacement for the injured Hakan Mild.

Had to hastily scrap a planned holiday when Mild went down with a serious Achilles injury.

Joint Swedish coach Lars Lagerback is certainly in no doubt that Farnerud has the ability to play in a World Cup finals.

"Obviously we wanted Hakan with us. He's experienced and an instigator which means a lot to the team. Everyone likes Hakan.

"However Pontus is an all-rounder and can play in a number of positions. Like Hakan he can be used defensively, in an attacking roll or on the wing.

"He has fantastic technique and is very talented. He has the possibility to make great progress."

Definitely one for the future.
