S KOREA v TURKEY PLAYER RATINGS

By Damian Spellman, PA Sport

TURKEY

Rustu Recber - became gradually busier as the game wore on, pulling off good saves from Ahn Jung-hwan and Cha Du-ri but could do little about the unstoppable free-kick from which Lee Eul-yong equalised or Song Chong-gug's deflected injury-time consolation strike. 7/10

Bulent Korkmaz - solid alongside Alpay in the middle of a Turkish defence which gave little away throughout. 7/10.

Fatih Akyel - came under regular pressure from the marauding Lee Chun-soo down the Turkey right but gave as good as he got. 6/10.

Alpay Ozalan - barely put a foot wrong in a determined display at the back to keep South Korea at bay. 7/10.

Tugay Kerimoglu - a quiet game by his standards, but probed from central midfield to keep the Turks pushing forward. 6/10.

Hakan Sukur - shook off the lethargy was has shackled him throughout the tournament to turn in a vintage display which started with the fastest goal in World Cup Finals history just seconds into the game. 8/10.

Yildiray Basturk - another who was perhaps not at his best, Basturk nevertheless worked hard to provide the service for Hakan Sukur and Ilhan Mansiz in front of him. 6/10.

Ilhan Mansiz - linked superbly with Sukur to make the early goal and then claim two himself in an excellent individual performance. 9/10.

Ergun Penbe - solid enough at left-back, where he had to contend with the pace and trickery of Song Chong-gug, before stepping forward when Hakan Unsal replaced Emre Belozoglu. 6/10.

Emre Belozoglu - used his pace and invention well in attack and his resilience in defence to set the pattern for Turkey, but limped off four minutes before the break to be replaced by Hakan Unsal. 7/10.

Umit Davala 7 - quietly efficient, especially when defending where he got in some important tackles around his own penalty area. 7/10.

Substitutes:

Hakan Unsal (Emre, 41 mins) - slipped seamlessly into the side as Ergun pushed forward and found life comfortable as the Korean assault faded. 7/10.

Okan Buruk (Davala, 76 mins) - had plenty of chasing to do as Korea battled to salvage some pride and his fresh legs helped Turkey hold out. 6/10.

Tayfur Havutcu (Basturk, 85mins) - had little chance to make an impression after being thrown on for a frantic last few minutes. 6/10.

SOUTH KOREA

Lee Woon-jae - left cruelly exposed by his own defence too often for comfort, but produced two fine saves to deny Sukur a second goal. 6/10.

Yoo Sang-chul - a member of the Korea back three which surrendered space alarmingly to Turkey with inevitable results. 5/10.

Seol Ki-hyeon - put himself about as the Koreans attempted to bounce back, but found clear-cut chances few and far between. 6/10.

Lee Young-pyo - worked tirelessly in midfield to provide ball for his wide men but not his day. 6/10.

Lee Eul-yong - tried everything he knew to get Korea back into the game and temporarily did so with his blistering ninth-minute free-kick equaliser. 7/10.

Lee Chun-soo - one of his side's most dangerous players, never missed an opportunity to take on Fatih Akyel. 7/10.

Lee Min-sung - had to take his share of the blame for a more than shaky defensive performance, but tried to make amends by linking up with Lee Chun-soo down the Korean left. 5/10.

Ahn Jung-hwan - the hero of the victory over Italy, he struggled to make an impression as the Korean attack was well marshalled by Alpay and Bulent Korkmaz, but forced one good save from Rustu and saw another shot deflected just wide. 6/10.

Hong Myung-bo - the skipper's early error set the ball rolling for the Turks and he made way at half-time for Kim Tae-young a disappointed man. 5/10.

Park Ji-sung - did his best to drag Korea back into, especially before the break when he combined a marking job on Tugay with a series of surges at the heart of the Turkish defence. 7/10.

Song Chong-gug - made life difficult for Ergun down the Korean left by running at the defender at pace and saw a blistering 52nd-minute effort fly inches over Rustu's crossbar, but got his reward in injury time with his side's second goal. 7/10.

Substitutes:

Kim Tae-young (Hong Myung-bo, 46 mins) - helped to steady the ship at the back for Korea but it was all a case of too little, too late. 7/10.

Cha Du-ri (Lee Eul-yong, 64 mins) - was at the heart of Korea's late surge and forced a good save from Rustu six minutes from time. 7/10.

Choi Tae-uk (Seol Ki-hyeon, 79 minutes) - tested Rustu within seconds of his introduction but could not find the power to beat the goalkeeper. 6/10.
