If some of their past encounters between Brazil and Germany are anything to go
by then a fitting conclusion to the World Cup on Sunday is in store. Here, PA
Sport looks at some of their previous clashes.
Hamburg 1963: Germany 1 Brazil 2
The South Americans looked set for a shock defeat having gone in at the break
a goal down, but second-half goals from Coutinho and Pele pulled them out of
trouble to enhance their reputation around the world.
Rio de Janeiro 1965: Brazil 2 Germany 0
In front of an phenomenal crowd of 140,000, the Brazilians, including the
likes of Garrincha, turned on the magic to destroy the Europeans, but they only
had goals from Flavio and Pele to show for their dominance.
Stuttgart 1968: Germany 2 Brazil 1
A strong German line-up containing such greats as Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd
Muller and Scotland coach Berti Vogts recorded a famous victory over their
opponents with Siggi Held getting his name on the scoresheet.
Rio de Janeiro 1968: Brazil 2 Germany 2
The samba stars looked set to exact revenge on their opponents back on home
soil, but having raced into a two-goal lead through an Edu double, Germany
battled back bravely with goals from Held and Gerwien to clinch a thrilling
draw.
Rio de Janeiro 1977: Brazil 1 Germany 1
An amazing 150,000 supporters crammed into the Maracanas to watch some of the
greatest players ever to be produced by both countries and they were not
disappointed as Rivelino struck late to earn a draw after Klaus Fischer's
opener.
Stuttgart 1981: Germany 1 Brazil 2
The South Americans, packed with top stars like Socrates, Junior and Zico,
came back from a goal down to win in Germany. Klaus Fischer gave Germany,
including Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Berd Schuster and Harald Schumacher, the lead,
but Cerezo and Junior replied.
Montivideo 1981: Brazil 4 Germany 1
Germany had the cheek to take an early lead through Allofs but Brazil
retaliated with goals from Junior, Cerezo, Serginho and Zu Sergio.
Washington 1993: Brazil 3 Germany 3
Germany staged one of the most monumental comebacks in history when they came
back from three goals down at half-time to claim a draw. Brazil raced ahead with
goals from Helmer, Careca and Luisinho, but their opponents came back valiantly
goals from Andreas Moller and Jurgen Klinsmann (two), who struck in the last
minute.
Stuttgart 1998: Germany 1 Brazil 2
This was an explosive encounter in which Jurgen Kholer and Denilson saw red,
but the South Americans, including Romario, Ronaldo and Rivaldo, won with
Ronaldo and Sampaio scoring their goals and Ulf Kirsten replying for the
Europeans.
Guadalajara 1999: Brazil 4 Germany 0
Michael Ballack would have loved to have put this nightmare behind him as he,
Thomas Linke and Oliver Neuville were level at half-time before they suffered a
humiliating second-half thrashing at the hands of Ze Roberto, Ronaldinho, and
substitute Alex, who came on to net a double.
