Football Association chief executive Adam Crozier has defended the FA's
decision to turn down extra tickets received at late notice for the World Cup
second-round clash with Denmark.
He revealed a similar offer of extra seats for England fans for the
quarter-final match against Brazil in Shizuoka on Friday afternoon will be
accepted, because the FA will have more time to ensure the tickets go to genuine
fans.
Crozier told the BBC1 Breakfast programme: "We have to be careful because
we've put in a lot of controls to make sure they go to people who are vetted.
"They were re-allocated tickets and we couldn't go through the right checks
at such short notice.
"Having said that we have taken up extra tickets for the match against Brazil
because we had extra-time to plan for that.
"We've had thousands of people lining the streets on our way to matches and
that has really helped. Every game has been a home game for us."
Crozier believes England's success at this tournament shows how far the FA
have come in the two years since the bitter disappointment of a first-round exit
at Euro 2000.
"We have had a few terrific moments since Sven joined us and this is the game
everyone wanted, probably the biggest game of the World Cup.
"I already think we've achieved a great deal. Every time the team wins it
creates a halo effect and that is a great boost to the game. We're very excited
and we see the reaction of the fans at home. That is transmitted to us and we're
trying to keep our feet on the ground.
"We've really transformed the FA itself, the whole England members club has
been reconstituted and I think we're seeing the benefit of all that work on the
playing side. We've changed things from top to bottom."
