Belgium's Branko Strupar believes England will have no problems in brushing
aside Brazil when they meet in the World Cup quarter-finals.
The Derby striker saw his team dumped out of the tournament by the four-time
champions on Monday, but he reckons Sven-Goran Eriksson's men will have no such
difficulties against Ronaldo and co on Friday.
"We have seen what has happened to France and Argentina and in this game
favourites Brazil had lots of problems with small Belgium," said Strupar.
"England have excellent players and are very strong in all areas, so I don't
think the Brazilians will go through. I think the quarter-final will be their
last game."
Brazil made hard work of their second-round clash in Kobe, with a deflected
second-half Rivaldo goal putting them ahead before Ronaldo sealed the win three
minutes from time.
But that was after Belgium had a goal controversially disallowed with the
scoresheet blank.
With 35 minutes gone, Marc Wilmots headed his side in front only for referee
Peter Prendergast to imagine a push on defender Roque Junior by Belgium's
inspirational captain as he jumped for the ball.
Strupar said: "I have not seen the replay but definitely, in England, this
would never have been a foul. If that had been decided as a goal, I think we
would have had another game."
And Wilmots, playing his final game for his country, claimed the Jamaican
official later apologised to him for wrongly cancelling out the effort.
"He came up to me at half-time and told me had just seen the TV pictures and
he was wrong," said the 33-year-old forward.
"He told me that we were right and he had made a mistake, but it was too late
by then.
"I guess that is just the way it is with football sometimes."
But Wilmots did not have any regrets about the Belgians' performance as he
bowed out of international football after 70 appearances.
"We battled until the end and I think it is a while since a Belgian team put
up a great fight like that," he said.
"This Belgium team is the best I have played with since my debut against
Romania 12 years ago."
