Picture Wilmots rises to score, but it is chalked off (Allsport)

BRAZIL v BELGIUM PLAYER RATINGS

By Alistair Grant, PA Sport

Brazil

Silveira Marcos: Tidy game. Made two great saves from Marc Wilmots - one at his near post and one diving across goal in the second half. 7.

Marcos Cafu: Average showing at the back. Michael Owen will try to beat him for pace on Friday. 5.

Ferreira Lucio: Some nice touches but never totally at ease with Belgium's movement up front. 6.

Jose Roque Junior: Muscled out of it for Wilmots' disallowed goal in the first half and never really settled into his usual rhythm. 6.

Jose Edmilson: Quiet. Failed to utilise his skill and not that impressive. 5.

Roberto Carlos: Not his usual self. Shot across goal in the first half - but that was his only significant contribution. 5.

Gilberto Silva: Another off-colour display, giving England real hope for Friday's quarter-final. 5.

Juninho: Livewire performance, bustling around midfield. Early shot wide and great run down right flank just before half-time. Off for Denilson after 57 mins. 8.

Rivaldo: Did little apart from 67th-minute goal - but that piece of skill alone was worth the entrance money. Brought the ball down beautifully and blasted home from 20 yards with the aid of a deflection. Off for Ricardinho, 90. 7.

Ronaldinho: Lively at start and finish - but quiet either side of half-time. Great piece of skill set up Rivaldo for early shot wide, flicked the ball inside for Rivaldo's goal and had a close-range shot closed down. Off for Kleberson, 81. 7.

Ronaldo: Rifled home Kleberson's cross in the 86th minute, in virtually his only contribution of the second half. Much better before the break and came close several times. 8.

Substitutes:

Denilson (on for Juninho, 67): Lively on left wing. 7.

Kleberson (on for Ronaldinho, 81): Set up Ronaldo for his 87th-minute goal. 6.

Ricardinho (on for Rivaldo, 90): No time to impress.

Belgium

Geert de Vlieger: Unlucky with deflected Rivaldo goal and left exposed for Ronaldo's late clincher. Great block from Ronaldo early on. 6.

Nico van Kerckhoven: Got forward well and crossed for Wilmots' disallowed goal. 7.

Daniel van Buyten: Steady performance in defence. 6.

Jacky Peeters: Solid if unspectacular display at the back. Off for Wesley Sonck, 73. 6.

Timmy Simons: Put himself about well but could not prevent Brazil's strength showing late on. 6.

Marc Wilmots: Headed home but 'goal' harshly disallowed for foul on Roque Junior. Brought two top-draw saves from Marcos and hit overhead kick too high. 8.

Bart Goor: Made late charge forward and just failed to nod bouncing cross beyond Marcos. 6.

Gert Verheyen: Lively throughout and came close with excellent header. 7.

Yves Vanderhaeghe: Cracked a shot just wide in the opening stages. Booked for bad tackle on Ronaldinho. 7.

Johan Walem: Average. Unable to really exert his influence on the game. 6.

Mbo Mpenza: Started well with first-minute chip saved by Marcos - and set up Wilmots, who almost scored with a curler. Blazed over late on. 7.

Substitutes:

Wesley Sonck (on for Peeters, 73): A real threat. Hit curling 20-yarder just wide and shot on turn which Marcos saved. 7.
