  REPUBLIC OF IRELAND
Picture 90 minutes and Keane celebrates (Allsport).

ROBBIE KEANE CLOCKWATCH

2 mins: Involved in a break from the Irish half, is fed by the marauding Kevin Kilbane, nutmegs Carlos Puyol and curls effort narrowly wide.

12 mins: Starved of early possession, Keane drops deep but is immediately dispossessed.

17 mins: Again stepping back towards the midfield, receives the ball with his back to goal before turning and slicing wide from 25 yards.

36 mins: Struggling to shake off the shackles of Fernando Hierro and Ivan Helguera, Keane wriggles free to the right hand byline but move is broken down by the Spanish as he seeks a colleague on the edge of the box.

43 mins: A clever lofted pass over the top of Spain's defence by Matt Holland provides Ireland's best chance of the first half. But the ball will not drop in time and, forced to hook over his head with his back to goal, lobs over the onrushing Iker Casillas and the crossbar.

65 mins: Drops deep to play one-two with Damien Duff, on the right, but nothing comes of the interchange.

69 mins: Foiled by Puyol's interception, 10 yards out, as substitute Niall Quinn attempts to head into his path.

78 mins: With the clock running down, Keane gets in the way of Ian Harte's goalbound free-kick, his head ballooning it over the top inadvertently.

84 mins: Another Quinn knockdown affords the Leeds striker a shooting chance 10 yards out, only for Casillas to read the danger and block his volley bravely from point-blank range.

90 mins: Shows no nerves in stepping up to stroke a penalty to Casillas' right, after Quinn is manhandled by Hierro, to send the contest into extra-time.

98 mins: An inventive flick offers Kevin Kilbane the chance to run to the byline.

104 mins: Finds room in a crowded penalty area but his drive ricochets to safety.

107 mins: Two shots within 60 seconds fly off target, the first earning his side a corner.

Penalties: Changes his tact from 12 yards, lifting into the roof of the net to put Ireland 1-0 up from the very first kick.
