Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni is set to award
a first World Cup start to Juventus defender Mark Iuliano in Tuesday's
second-round match against co-hosts Korea.
The Azzurri are forced into a change due to the absence of Parma's experienced
defedner Fabio Cannavano, suspended after collecting two yellow cards in the
group stage.
Trapattoni will decide between Iuliano and Inter Milan's Marco Materazzi as
his replacement.
But the 30-year-old Juve centre-back is likely to get the nod, as Italy bid to
make the last eight for the fourth successive finals.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, a Juventus team-mate of Iuliano, is confident that either would prove ideal for the role.
"Fabio is a great loss," he said. "But I am used to playing with Iuliano at
Juventus and it has gone well with Materazzi in the past as well."
