Sweden's Fredrik Ljungberg will need further tests after the World Cup on the
hip injury that has been troubling him in Japan.
The Arsenal midfielder missed Sweden's 1-1 draw with Argentina on Wednesday
but the Swedes are hopeful he may figure against Senegal in the second-round
meeting in Oita on Sunday, provided he passes a fitness test at the stadium
on Saturday.
The 25-year-old was suffering from a locking sensation in his hip, according
to Magnus Forssblad, the Swedish team doctor.
"It's not so much when he runs, he feels some type of locking when he stands
on it," he said.
Forssblad said the problem was something Ljungberg had played with for most of
last season and warned "more complex" tests would be required after the World
Cup to get to the bottom of it.
Forssblad added that Ljungberg, whose scoring streak at the end of the season
drove Arsenal to the double, was paying the price for "too much" football.
"He's had it for a few weeks," said Forssblad. "He felt it before, maybe
during the whole season. It's a lot of games and maybe it's too much for a
soccer player to play. It's hard.
"I think we have to do a more complex scan and maybe we should do that in
England. The problem is in the hip and we cannot do that now."
