Picture Heskey's goal will give him confidence.

ENGLAND v DENMARK PLAYER RATINGS

By Chris Roberts, PA Sport

ENGLAND

DAVID SEAMAN: Again gave the players in front of him confidence with an almost faultless display in the England goal. 7.

DANNY MILLS: After early doubts he has rapidly become one of England's best players in the World Cup and again surprised more people with some solid defending while also causing problems with his overlapping bursts forward. 9.

SOL CAMPBELL: After some early moments of uncertainty he looked solid to help stamp out threat of the Danish attack. 8.

RIO FERDINAND: The in-demand Leeds United defender again handled everything with total comfort and also popped up to score England's vital opener. 8.

ASHLEY COLE: Gave Dennis Rommedahl far too much space in the first-half, but became more confident as the game wore on and got closer to the Danish winger. 7.

DAVID BECKHAM: The Manchester United man is also looking near his best again with typically energetic performance up and down the right wing and also caused a threat with the ball anywhere around the penalty box. 8.

PAUL SCHOLES: Showed great understanding with Nicky Butt again and a constant menace in middle of the park before being substituted. 7.

NICKY BUTT: His tackling and battling gave the defence an extra barrier for the opposition to break down and has become much more of a creative player than people were led to believe before this World Cup started. 9.

TREVOR SINCLAIR: Worked hard to give Ashley Cole back-up when he found himself exposed at the back and also gave England good attacking threat on left wing. 7.

MICHAEL OWEN: Never stopped chasing and harrassing the Danish defence and the way in which he finished his goal suggests there is more to come from him. 7.

EMILE HESKEY: Despite being frustrated for large parts he never stopped making himself available for the ball and was even found helping out the defence. A first-half goal would also have done his confidence the world of good. 7.

SUBS:

ROBBIE FOWLER (ON FOR MICHAEL OWEN 46 MINUTES): Looked sharp and lively when introduced to give Sven-Goran Eriksson a reminder. 6.

KIERON DYER (ON FOR PAUL SCHOLES 49 MINUTES): Competed well up and down the l;eft to suggest that he was over the worst of his injury. 6.

TEDDY SHERINGHAM (ON FOR EMILE HESKEY 69 MINUTES): Found himself defending more than he would have expected. 6.

DENMARK

THOMAS SORENSEN: The Sunderland man made some good saves, but that was to make up for the first-half nightmare he endured. 6.

STIG TOFTING: Frustarted with his defence after battling hard against the English midfield and was relieved of his duties during the second half. 7.

RENE HENRIKSEN: Gave Emile Heskey very little chance to play, but went missing for the Liverpool's striker's goal. 6.

MARTIN LAURSEN: Did well against Michael Owen in the air, but still looked nevous on the gound and gave away corner for England's opener. 6.

THOMAS HELVEG: Was beaten at the back post by Rio Ferdinand for the opening goal and then carried off with a nasty injury. 4.

THOMAS GRAVESEN: Found it difficult to get on top in the middle of the midfield, against the threat of Scholes and Butt. but never stopped going. 7.

JESPER GRONKJAER: Saw a lot of the ball down the right flank, but his crossing was poor and he was marshalled well by Danny Mills. 7.

JON DAHL TOMASSON: Struggled to make the same impact as in previous World Cup matches, but Denmark's best hope of scoring. 7.

EBBE SAND: Typically industrious display and always looking to create something, but thwarted in the main by Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes. 8.

NICLAS JENSEN: Made a terrible mistake for England's third goal and looked nervous against David Beckham and overlapping Danny Mills. 6.

DENNIS ROMMEDAHL: Gave Ashley Cole a harrowing time with his pace down the right, but his final ball was disappointingly poor throughout. 7.

SUBS:

KASPER BOGELUND (ON FOR THOMAS HELVEG 8 MINUTES): Put his side in trouble with some poor passes, but got better as the game wore on. 7.

CLAUS JENSEN (ON FOR STIG TOFTING 58 MINUTES): Looked dangerous after coming on and brought a good late save from David Seaman. 6.
