1338: Inzaghi is in the action again when he gets through on the Mexico goal but with just Perez to beat he tries to go round him and Perez manages to get his hand to the ball to push it away from Inzaghi. Another great chance wasted by Inzaghi.

1337: Inzaghi makes a great run down the left for Italy but he holds onto the ball too long and in the end losses possession.

1336: Croatia will have to raise their game now otherwise they will be heading out of the tournament.

1335: As it stands now it is Italy and Mexico who are going through.

1334: GOAL MENDEZ. Agustin Delgado gets his head onto a deep cross from the right and heads the ball into the path of the impressive Mendez who hits a low first time shot that beats the despairing hand of Pletikosa to give Ecuador a 1-0 lead.

1333: The second 45 minutes between Italy and Mexico is now under way.

1250: Bokisic slides the ball into Ivica Olic but he waits too long to take his shot and the Ecuador defence gets back to clear.

1249: Italy have upped the tempo in the last few minutes and definately look the more likely of the two sides to open the scoring.

1248: Inzaghi finds Totti free in the Mexico penalty-area but with just Perez to beat from 10-yards out he hooks his shot wide of the goal and it's a great chance gone begging.

1247: Croatia at the moment are resorting to long ball tactics as they continue to look very ordinary against an Ecuador side who are having the better of the first-half up to now.

1231: The game between Italy and Mexico gets under way.

1230: The game between Ecuador and Croatia gets under way.

Pre-match: Italy could be the next high-profile team to go out of the tournament today. Giovanni Trapattoni's men take on Group G leaders Mexico knowing that if they fail to beat Javier Aguirre's side and Croatia beat Ecuador, they will endure the same embarrassing early exit as that of France and Argentina. However, if they beat Mexico and Croatia beat Ecuador by more than two goals it will be Italy and Croatia who go through. Ecuador still have an outside chance of qualifying - but they would have to thrash Croatia and hope that Italy fall to a heavy defeat against Mexico. Unlikely but possible! Italy have gambled on the fitness of Alessandro Nesta and he will play at the back alongside Fabio Cannavaro, with Trapattoni deciding to play three up front in the shape of Filippo Inzaghi, Francesco Totti and Christian Vieri.
