England's draw against Nigeria secured second place in the 'Group of Death' behind Sweden and gave them a second round showdown with Denmark in Niigata on Saturday.

The two countries have met 14 times before, the first a friendly in Copenhagen in 1948. Here PA Sport looks at England's record against the Danes.

1948 - Denmark 0 England 0 in Copenhagen (friendly). Neither side could break the deadlock in the first-ever meeting of the two countries.

1955 - Denmark 1 England 5 in Copenhagen (friendly). England emphatically beat Denmark in a match played to celebrate the opening of a new stand at Idraetsparken in Copenhagen. Don Revie (2), Nat Lofthouse (2) and Geoff Bradford were on the score sheet for England with Denmark's consolation from Knud Lundberg.

1956 - England 5 Denmark 2 at Wolverhampton (World Cup qualifier). A Tommy Taylor hat-trick and a brace from Duncan Edwards saw another five goals for England. Ove Bech Nielsen scored twice for the Scandinavians.

1957 - Denmark 1 England 4 in Copenhagen (World Cup qualifier). Taylor continued his good form against the Danes with two goals. John Haynes and John Atyeo also contributed with John Jensen scoring Denmark's consolation.

1966 - Denmark 0 England 2 in Copenhagen (friendly). Another victory for England in Copenhagen thanks to goals from Jack Charlton and George Eastham.

1978 - Denmark 3 England 4 in Copenhagen (European Championship qualifier). A seven-goal thriller in the Danish capital. Kevin Keegan scored wice but Denmark fought back with goals from Allan Simonsen and Frank Arnesen. In the second half Bob Latchford and Phil Neal seemed to have put the match beyond the Danes but an 86th minute goal from Per Rontved led to a nervous final five minutes for the visitors.

1979 - England 1 Denmark 0 at Wembley (European Championship qualifier). Kevin Keegan scored his third goal against Denmark in a 1-0 victory for England.

1982 - Denmark 2 England 2 in Copenhagen (European Championship qualifier). It was honours even in Copenhagen. Trevor Francis scored twice for England but goals from Allan Hansen and Jesper Olsen earned the Danes a point.

1983 - England 0 Denmark 1 at Wembley (European Championship qualifier). Denmark beat England for the first time on home turf. Allan Simonsen got the only goal of the match after 36 minutes.

1988 - England 1 Denmark 0 at Wembley (friendly). England ran out winners thanks to Neil Webb's 29th-minute goal.

1989 - Denmark 1 England 1 in Copenhagen (friendly). Gary Lineker put the visitors ahead with Lars Elstrup equalising for Denmark in the second half.

1990 - England 1 Denmark 0 at Wembley (friendly). Another narrow victory for England, with Lineker again getting the goal.

1992 - England 0 Denmark 0 in Malmo, Sweden (European Championships). The only meeting between the two sides in an international competition ended in a 0-0 draw.

1994 - England 1 Denmark 0 at Wembley (friendly). The last match to be played between England and Denmark. England were winners against a Danish side which included Peter Schmeichel and the Laudrup brothers, Brian and Michael. David Platt scored the only goal after 18 minutes.
