Picture 1359: Campos nets Paraguay's second (Allsport)

GROUP B CLOCKWATCH

By James Dart, Sportinglife.com

  • All times BST

1416: It's all over and pure heartbreak for South Africa. They had one foot in the second round throughout the game, but were denied progression by Paraguay's stunning comeback. Cuevas will certainly be toasted in the streets of Paraguay tonight and they now meet Germany. For Spain, they are through with a 100 per cent record, having topped the group. They face the Republic of Ireland. For Slovenia, they leave withouth a point and without a coach, as Srecko Katanec has resigned.

1415: Into added-time in both games now as the clock runs down on Group B.

1414: What a dramatic second half we've had in both games, but as things stand, Spain are set for a second round game with the Republic of Ireland, whilst Paraguay are set to meet Germany.

1413: With around five minutes remaining, South Africa must try to get men forward in a bid to score the goal that could take them through.

1412: Nomvete is off for South Africa with George Koumantarakis on to bolster their forward line.

1411: Heartbreak for South Africa as the third goal for Paraguay leaves them 3-1 up and set to finish second on goals scored. South Africa must now score.

1410: GOAL CUEVAS - What a stunning goal from the substitute as he cuts past two defenders before lashing home off the underside of the crossbar.

1409: Luis Enrique somehow fails to score from six yards out as he fires wide, whilst in Seogwipo, Santa Cruz fails to turn in from a similar position for Paraguay.

1408: Another change from Spanish coach Camacho with Raul coming off and Luis Enrique coming on.

1407: RED CARD CEH - Substitute Nastja Ceh sees red for a high lunge. That makes it ten men apiece in this bad-tempered clash.

1406: Paraguay almost draw level as a Chilavert free-kick draws a superb save from Dabanovic. He tips the ball on to the bar and over. From the corner, Slovenia clear.

1405: A final substitution from Slovenia as Osterc is replaced by Senad Tiganj. Radebe returns to boost the South African back-line.

1404: Albert Luque comes on in place of Morientes and the Real Mallorca forward almost scores with his first touch as his shot from 14 yards out is well-parried by Arendse.

1403: Concern as Radebe is stretchered from the field of play in Daejon. South Africa don't want to lose him now.

1402: Radebe is flattened after being caught by a team-mate as he challenged at a corner. The Leeds man is receiving some treatment.

1401: The ten men have their tails up as they search for a third goal that would break South African hearts.

1400: As things stand, Spain and South Africa would still go through from Group B, but if Bafana Bafana concede again, or Paraguay score again, then Maldini's team can sneak through.

1359: GOAL CAMPOS - Paraguay's comeback is completed as the substitute lashes a powerful drive past Dabanovic from 22 yards out. They now lead 2-1.

1358: Moments after Osterc's shot is fired wide for Slovenia, Rudonja collects a booking.

1357: A corner to Spain as Morientes almost rises up Radebe to head home. Joaquin floats his cross into the box, but South Africa do well to head away.

1356: More action for the referee in Daejon where Nomvete is booked for a foul on Helguera.

1355: A yellow card for Amir Karic of Slovenia as Dabanovic is called upon to make a good save from Cuevas with Santa Cruz lurking for any rebound.

1354: Bradley Carnell is booked for South Africa after a foul on Joaquin and Bafana Bafana will have slight nerves now after Paraguay's levelling goal.

1353: GOAL CUEVAS - Paraguay are right back in their game against Slovenia, as Nelson Cuevas sees his shot beat Dabanovic at his near post to make the score 1-1.

1352: Raul swivels to find space around 25 yards from the South African goal, but his lobbed effort fails to test Arendse.

1351: Slovenian goalscorer Acimovic takes his leave with Nastja Ceh coming on in his place.

1350: A good chance for Spain goes begging as Helguera meets Xavi's corner with a near-post header, but it flies just wide of Arendse's left-hand upright.

1349: The flag-kick is cleared by the Slovenian defence and when the ball goes out soon after, Cardozo is replaced by Nelson Cuevas for Paraguay.

1348: Another corner for Paraguay as they enjoy their best spell of the second half.

1347: A quick break from Paraguay and they win a corner that will be taken by Arce. His curling centre is met by the head of Santa Cruz, but the Bayern Munich striker's effort is cleared.

1346: More pressure from Slovenia in Seogwipo where Paraguay are really up against it. Chilavert again has to save from Rudonja's shot.

1345: The Group B standings again change, but it's still Spain on top with South Africa in second spot.

1344: GOAL RAUL - The forward spins into a yard of space at the far post ahead of Radebe to head home Joaquin's cross past Arendse to now make it 3-2 to Spain.

1343: Guido Alvarenga is replaced by Jorge Campos as Cesare Maldini makes a substitution for Paraguay.

1342: Tough luck on Acimovic and Slovenia as the midfielder hits the bar with a powerful effort. A real escape for Paraguay.

1341: With the score now 2-2, South Africa's position is again strengthened regarding qualification, and it's probably what Sono's team deserve on this performance.

1340: GOAL RADEBE - A very rare strike from the Leeds defender and Bafana Bafana stalwart as he pops up at the back post to head Fortune's deflected corner past the scrambling Casillas.

1339: South Africa have a corner as Nzama's cross is deflected behind. Meanwhile, Spain make a change in personnel with Sergio taking the place of David Albelda.

1338: Slovenia fire in a shot on goal through Rudonja but Chilavert is again equal to it to keep Paraguay in the game.

1337: Quinton Fortune plays in Nomvete who has the chance to run at the Spanish defence. However, Ivan Helguera tracks back well and gets an important foot in.

1336: A brief spell of pressure from Paraguay, but they look a little tired with only ten men. It would be an almighty effort just to get a draw out of the game now.

1335: Zuma attempts to pick out McCarthy with a pin-point centre, but his cross is too high and the Middlesbrough target can't leap to reach it.

1334: An early effort in the half from Osterc of Slovenia, but Chilavert deals with it competently.

1333: The onus is now really on the ten men of Paraguay, who need to score three goals and concede no more, whilst hoping South Africa lose, if they are to qualify ahead of Bafana Bafana.

1332: The action restarts in Daejon and Seogwipo.

HT: Spain 2 South Africa 1
    Slovenia 1 Paraguay 0

1315: That's half-time in both games with crucial goals scored on the stroke of the interval in each. As things stand, Spain and South Africa would advance to the last 16.

1314: GOAL ACIMOVIC - Slovenia take the lead through the Tottenham-bound player's deflected strike from a tight angle past Chilavert. South Africa may feel down going into the break behind, but their morale will be boosted by Paraguay falling behind.

1313: GOAL MENDIETA - Too easy for the Lazio man as he curls the ball around the wall and past the poorly-placed Arendse. Two-one to Spain.

1312: A free-kick to Spain in a dangerous position just outside the South African penalty area.

1311: Milan Osterc finds himself in space down the left side of the Paraguay penalty area, but he takes an age to release the ball and the chance is gone as two defenders crowd him out.

1310: A good solo run from Cimirotic ends with his shot being turned behind by Chilavert, who keeps his side level at 0-0.

1309: As we approach the interval, the pace in Daejon has really slowed down where a point for both sides will be enough to take them through. However, South Africa will want to push on as a draw will give them a round two meeting with Germany.

1308: A substitution for Slovenia as Pavlin has not recovered from his earlier knock. Mladen Rudonja is the player taking his place.

1306: Mendieta feeds Morientes down the left flank, but his cross is poor and the spark has gone out of the Spanish game for the time being.

1305: Pavlin is currently down receiving treatment for Slovenia after a heavy challenge.

1304: It will be interesting to see how much the Spanish side are willing to push on in an attempt to beat South Africa. A draw, remember, will secure them top spot in Group B.

1303: Back in Seogwipo where Slovenia are yet to really take any real advantage from having an extra man of the field.

1302: A huge goal for Jomo Sono's team, who are looking more and more like reaching the second round after that goal.

1301: GOAL McCARTHY - Arendse's save is made all the more important as Nomvete heads down a deep cross and the wantaway Celta Vigo striker beats Casillas to the ball to turn it home from close range.

1300: Arendse makes up for his earlier mistake with a stunning one-handed save from Morientes' header. Mendieta crossed to the Real Madrid man, whose goalbound connection from seven yards out is just parried by the flying hand of the Bafana Bafana stopper.

1259: Dabanovic does well to block a powerful shot from Arce, before Cardoso heads straight at the Slovenian stopper, who completes a crucial double stop.

1258: A very ambitious drive from Acuna is struck well from fully 35 yards out, but it flies wide for a Slovenia goal-kick.

1257: Arce hammers in a free-kick, looking to score as he did against South Africa, but his effort sails over the bar.

1256: Slovenia look to take advantage of their extra man and Pavlin fires in a measured effort that Chilavert does well to hold.

1255: Chilavert's shot fails to beat the Slovenian wall and the 'keeper is forced to beat a hasty retreat.

1254: Ten-man Paraguay win a free-kick on the edge of the Slovenian area - Chilavert is to take it.

1253: RED CARD PAREDES - Spain clear the corner, but the real drama is in Seogwipo, where Paraguay's Paredes collects his second yellow card of the game for a foul on Acimovic. They will now have to play for the remaining 70 minutes or so with just ten men.

1252: Sibusiso Zuma comes as close as South Africa have done thus far to scoring as his low drive is tipped around the post by Casillas.

1251: Just to remind you, as things stand at the moment, both Spain and South Africa would book their spot in the second round.

1250: This time, South Africa completely clear their lines as we reach the 20-minute-mark of both Group B games.

1249: Nzama concedes a corner which is hit deep to Joaquin, whose driven effort deflects around the post for another flag-kick.

1248: Another corner to Paraguay, but once more, Slovenia deal comfortably with it.

1247: Xavi almost releases Fernando Morientes through the middle, but the outstretched leg of Tebeho Mokoena saves South Africa.

1246: Whilst Slovenia clear the subsequent corner of Paraguay, Cyril Nzama picks up a yellow card for South Africa against Spain for a foul on Mendieta.

1245: Back in Seogwipo where Pavlin is booked for a seemingly-innocuous challenge on Roberto Acuna. Chilavert takes the free-kick and wins a corner from his deep cross.

1244: Spain are looking very comfortable at the moment and should they win, will become the first team so far to reach the last 16 with a 100 per cent record.

1243: Francisco Arce curls the ball into the penalty area, but his cross is adjudged to have put the ball out for a goal-kick before curling it back into play.

1242: A corner to Paraguay, who are starting to take charge of their game with Slovenia.

1241: Raul and Mendieta are playing some nice football in the South African half and the latter is unlucky to see his shot from Joaquin's cross blocked on its way to goal by the leg of a defender.

1240: Jose Luis Chilavert comes running out of his area to send the ball into the stands - not the last time he'll be out of his box this evening.

1239: Ntuthuko Sibaya brings a save out of Iker Casillas, with a 25-yard cracker that sees the Real stopper fist the ball to safety.

1238: A real chance for Jose Cardozo of Paraguay, as he meets a free-kick played into the Slovenian area, but nods it just wide of Mladen Dabanovic's goal from ten yards out.

1237: Milenko Acimovic, on his way to Tottenham, fires in a shot from a 40-yard free-kick, but his ambitious effort flies wide of the target.

1236: You have to feel a little sorry for Arendse - formerly of Fulham and Oxford United - as this is the biggest day in South Africa's football history. If Paraguay were to win by two goals now as things stand, they would advance to round two.

1235: A foul by Carlos Paredes earns the Paraguayan a yellow card for a poor tackle on Slovenia's Miran Pavlin.

1234: GOAL RAUL - A terrible mistake from South African goalkeeper Andre Arendse as he slides out to collect a ball, but makes a real mess of it, enabling the on-rushing Raul to rob him and tap into an empty net from five yards out.

1233: Sebastian Cimirotic makes a break down the right for Slovenia against Paraguay, but his lay-off to Dzoni Novak sees the midfielder sky his cross behind for a goal-kick.

1232: South Africa have opened brightly in their match with hotly-fancied Spain. Remember, the winner of this game will meet the Republic of Ireland in the second round. A draw will take both teams through with the Spaniards set to meet the Republic.

1231: An early headed attempt on goal by Roque Santa Cruz for Paraguay, but as he gets underneath a high ball, merely heads it well wide of the Slovenian goal.

1230: The action is under way in both games.

Pre-match: With qualification already clinched, Spain make wholesale changes for the clash with South Africa in Daejon. Curro Torres, Mendieta, Albelda and Joaquin get their first action of the tournament so far. They need a point to top the group while South Africa will take second spot with a point and they name an attacking line-up with Siyabonga Nomvete partnering Benni McCarthy upfront. If the Bafana Bafana are beaten, Paraguay can snatch second spot with a two-goal win over Slovenia in Seogwipo.
