0924: It's all over and Argentina have crashed out of the finals to join fellow pre-tournament favourites France on a plane home from the Far East. Sweden hang on for a 1-1 draw and it is they who top Group F ahead of England due to having scored one goal more.
0923: All attention now on Miyagi where Argentina have under two minutes to save themselves.
0922: It's all over in Osaka where England have reached the second round with a 0-0 draw against Nigeria. They will finish second in Group F.

0917: Argentina continue to push on for a goal that would take them through and dump the Swedes out dramatically.
0916: GOAL CRESPO - The penalty from Ortega is poor and Hedman saves to his left, but Crespo pounces to turn the ball home. England now can't afford to concede or else they could go out.
0915: A free-kick to England on the left side, around 28 yards out from the Nigerian goal. Opabunmi comes off for Pius Ikedia for Nigeria. Meanwhile, there's a penalty for Argentina.

0912: Sweden come within inches of sealing a victory over Argentina as Andersson's shot beats Cavallero, but not the angle of post and bar.
0911: England's game is descending into more of a practice match with both teams appearing content with the point each is heading for.
0910: More good work down the left from Cole, but over in Argentina's game, Zanetti forces Hedman into a great save low to his right.
0909: Argentina still can't turn the ball in as Aimar's shot is knocked up off the goal-line by Jakobsson.
0908: With the clock and the tempo running down, Cole almost breaks the lethargy with a cross-shot that amazingly runs along the crossbar. A real let-off for Nigeria, but it would have been a freak goal.
0907: Over in Miyagi, Larsson collects a booking for diving as he goes down under a heavy challenge from the last Argentina defender. A harsh decision that definitely went Argentina's way.
0906: As Sheringham's long-range lob flies just over the bar with Enyeama scrambling, Darius Vassell comes on for Owen.
0905: Sheringham spurns a great chance as Cole's break down the left is crossed to Owen, who turns it on to the Spurs man, but he directs his shot over the bar from 12 yards.
0904: England win a free-kick just outside the Nigerian penalty area, but instead of saving it for a Beckham shot, they take it short and quick - messing it up completely - and let Nigeria off the hook.

0902: Akwuegbu is caught from behind by Campbell to give Nigeria a free-kick around 35 yards out from the England goal. Yobo strikes a firm effort, but it flies high and wide.
0901: Scholes is just unable to cap a sparkling run past four defenders as he over-runs the ball outside the Nigerian box.
0900: It is still all Argentina, but they just can't find a way through this resolute and well-organised defence.
0859: England make their first change in personnel with Teddy Sheringham coming on in place of Heskey.
0858: Good play from Ortega almost opens up the Sweden defence, but they get numbers back to crowd him, then Crespo out.
0857: A substitution for Sweden as Anders Svensson, their hero of the game so far, takes his leave with Mattias Jonson coming on.
0856: Sinclair breaks with pace down the inside-left channel, but his final ball towards Heskey is a tad disappointing and Sodje half-clears. Butt collects 30 yards out, but his drive flies wide with his shot covered.

0854: Opabunmi and Mills clash on the right and Nigeria win a corner. It is poor and England are able to clear away.
0853: Another chance for England as they have a free-kick around 30 yards out. Beckham will again shoot. It's poor though and goes out for a goal-kick. Meanwhile, Magnus Svensson is booked for Sweden.
0852: A free-kick to England as Sodje outmuscles Owen on the left flank. Beckham takes the set piece, curling the ball in with pace from his right boot. Nigeria half-clear it, but Butt sees his follow-up shot blocked.
0851: Argentina continue to push forward and now they make a double change with Veron and Kily Gonzalez coming on for Sorin and Almeyda, who gave away the free-kick that Sweden scored from.
0850: Thirty minutes remain in Group F and England are looking good at the moment to reach round two behind Sweden.
0849: Owen just fails to get on the end of Heskey's cross, but the England fans are getting word of Sweden's goal. We've just seen Batistuta taken off - could that be his last action at a World Cup finals?
0848: GOAL ANDERS SVENSON - A dramatic goal for Sweden as they take the lead from Svensson's stunning free-kick. That puts them 1-0 up and heading for the top spot in Group F for progression. Argentina must now score twice and if the score stays like this, England could even afford to lose to Nigeria.
0847: Almeyda trips the advancing Anders Svensson to concede a free-kick around 30 yards from the Argentina goal. Almeyda is booked, whilst Batistuta is substituted for Hernan Crespo.
0846: Free-kick to England around 28 yards out after Sinclair is tripped. Beckham's shot is good, but it just fails to dip in time, skimming off the roof of the net.

0840: Beckham's delivery is good to Ferdinand, but his header is unable to set up a team-mate for a shooting chance and the opportunity slides away.
0839: Owen attempts to get on to Heskey's flick and Joseph Yobo has to hack the ball behind for a corner.
0838: Unlike England, Argentina must score to further their interest in this tournament. They're giving up room at the back, but Sweden are yet to take advantage of this.
0837: Scholes wins a corner for England as Justice Christopher heads behind. Beckham picks out Ferdinand, but the Leeds man's header falls to Okocha.
0836: Campbell and Mills combine to make up for Ferdinand's error as Aghahowa breaks into the England area from the left.
0835: England don't have to win their game against Nigeria, but coach Eriksson is sure to want an early goal in this period that would ease their building nerves.

0833: England resume their crunch game in Osaka against Nigeria.
0831: Sweden's game with Argentina restarts with the Swedes having made one change during the interval. Andreas Andersson is on for Allback, who picked up a knock earlier.
HT: Nigeria 0 England 0
Sweden 0 Argentina 0
0819: Half-time in both games with the scoreline 0-0 in each. Argentina have dominated Sweden but having nothing to show for it, whilst England just edged the half against Nigeria after a very strong end to the period. As Group F stands at the break, both Sweden and England would progress to the last 16.
0818: Drama in Miyagi, where Argentina substitute is sent-off from the bench by the UAE referee. He is banished to the stands.
0817: Stoppage-time in both games as the half-time whistle approaches in each.
0816: Sinclair now wins another corner for England, but Heskey heads Beckham's cross well over under pressure.
0815: The best effort of the half in either game comes from Scholes as his 30-yard screamer is tipped onto the post by Enyeama and back out to Sodje. England are ending the half superbly.
0814: Mills comes close to a first ever goal for England, but from a good shooting position on the edge of the Nigerian area, he drags his shot well side of the bar.
0813: England's vociferous travelling support looks to lift their team just ahead of the interval and Cole again wastes a good crossing position wide on the left behind the Nigerian defence.

0810: Mills plays a good ball into the Nigerian penalty box, but Owen just can't get his full head on the ball and he knocks it well over the bar.
0809: Just for the time being, Sweden are coming back into their game with Argentina as they start to pass the ball around nicely.
0808: A worrying moment for England as Akwuegbu finds room on the right side of the England area, but shoots straight at Seaman, whose parry goes behind. Okocha's corner is eventually gathered by the Arsenal goalkeeper to relieve the pressure.
0807: Heskey and Nicky Butt sandwich Femi Opabunmi and the Nigerian player picks himself up lethargically after winning a free-kick.
0806: England deal with Okocha's corner comfortably and break with pace. Owen makes a trademark burst into the Nigerian area past two defenders, but sees it shot deflected behind by Okoronkwo. However, a goal-kick is the poor decision.
0805: Mills is forced to concede a corner as he heads a cross from Akwuegbu behind.
0804: The atmosphere continues to be somewhat low-key in Osaka where England have yet to really get into the Nigerian side. There have been more chances for Argentina against Sweden in Miyagi, but that scoreline is also 0-0.
0803: Isaac Okoronkwo clatters into the back of Owen and England have a free-kick about 35 yards out. Beckham's curled effort is disappointing though and Enyeama gathers.
0802: As Nigeria win a dubious free-kick just outside the England penalty area, Okocha's curled effort is batted down by Seaman. He is lucky then to see Aghahowa's toe-poked effort to knock the rebound in from a tight angle fly well wide.
0801: Corner to Sweden as they wase the pressure on themselves against Argentina. Anders Svensson whips it in, but Argentina smuggle the ball away and counter with pace.
0800: Lopez steals it at the far post after Aimar's deep cross, but his low volley fails to test Hedman as it flies into the side-netting.
0759: The temperature continues to rise in both stadia and it will be interesting to see how it effects all four teams, especially England and Sweden.
0758: A stunning volleyed effort from Lopez arcs just over Hedman's crossbar as Argentina push on for an opening goal. As things stand at the moment in Group F, both Sweden and England would progress to the second round.

0754: England are winding up the pace in Osaka, but are still struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.
0753: Danny Mills is finding space down the right flank and he wins a corner from a deflected cross. Beckham's cross looks for Ferdinand, but he just can't get his head on the ball.
0752: A solo run from Beckham makes a yard for a shooting chance, but the England skipper's curling effort does not have enough power on it and Enyeama catches comfortably.
0751: A corner to England as Owen's good run forces Efetobore Sodje of Crewe to hack behind. Beckham's delivery is good and despite the goalkeeper fumbling the centre, he wins a free-kick.
0750: Heskey does well to beat his man at the near post to meet a Beckham cross, but he slightly scuffs his shot and Enyeama saves low to his left.
0749: Another corner for Argentina, who are really pinning Sweden back in Miyagi. Gabriel Batistuta takes it, but Teddy Lucic meets it to clear.
0748: A weaving run from Javier Zanetti earns a corner for Argentina. It is hit long, but Sweden clear.
0747: Okocha's flag-kick is a disappointment and Beckham is able to head away at the near post.
0746: Corner to Nigeria. Let's see how the England defence copes with Nigeria's big players.
0745: Argentina are beginning to up the tempo against Sweden and Sorin again misses a good headed chance. Lopez's cross picks out the midfielder around eight yards out, but he heads over the bar when he really should have scored.
0744: England's early tactics so far have been to send the ball pretty long towards Owen and Heskey, but so far, the Nigerian defence is coping well with it.
0743: The best chance of the game in Miyagi sees Sorin's header at the back stick saved well by Magnus Hedman and turned away.
0742: Beckham's cross is turned behind for a second England corner. The goalkeeper makes another mess of it and as the ball drops to Rio Ferdinand, but his shot is blocked.
0741: Aghahowa is causing all kinds of problems for the England defence as his header at the back post behind the opposing defenders fails to pick out a team-mate. Meanwhile, in Miyagi, Argentina have a corner cleared by the head of Johan Mjallby.
0740: A cross in towards Michael Owen is headed behind for a corner to England. David Beckham whips the ball in with pace, but Enyeama fists it nervously away.

0734: England fire in their first shot on goal of the game with Nigeria as Scholes drags his effort wide of 19-year-old 'keeper Vincent Enyeama's right-hand post.
0733: Emile Heskey and Paul Scholes combine down the left to win England a throw in an advanced position.
0732: Good early possession from Nigeria gives England something to think about in Osaka, but their move breaks down and Eriksson's side can build.
0731: American referee Brian Hall gets the match started between England and Nigeria, whilst an early surging break from Juan Sorin almost stuns Sweden in the opening minute for Argentina.
0730: Ali Bujsaim from the United Arab Emirates blows his whistle in Miyagi to get the game under way.
Pre-match: In Osaka, England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson made just one change to the team that started against Argentina, with Trevor Sinclair unsurprisingly coming in for the crocked Owen Hargreaves. There was no Kanu or Bartholomew Ogbeche in attack for the Nigerians, but dangerman Julius Aghahowa did start in a side showing five changes from their last game. Over in Miyagi where Argentina were playing Sweden, Juan Veron was dropped to the bench by Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa, with Pablo Aimar coming into the team. Matias Almeyda and Claudio Lopez also moved into the team at the expense of Diego Simeone and Kily Gonzalez. For Sweden, Arsenal star Fredrik Ljungberg was named as a substitute.
