Injured Arsenal winger Robert Pires has offered his sympathy to France's
deposed world champions after they crashed out of the World Cup at the first
hurdle.
Without the creative spark of Pires, France failed to score a goal as they
earned just one point from a group featuring Uruguay, Senegal and Denmark.
But the Arsenal man has revealed his sadness at missing out on a chance to
help his country's title defence after suffering a knee injury late in the
Premiership season.
He told Arsenal's official website, www.arsenal.com: "I am so sad for my
team-mates. It was always going to be hard after the Danes went one goal ahead
against us, but it was unbelievable that we made so many chances on each of the
three games and failed to score a goal.
"I think it is a very hard moment for me and the team. I felt bad because I
was unable to help them in any way. I feel sorry for them right now."
