Luis Figo believes the atmosphere at Portugal's showdown with South Korea on Friday will be as though it were the World Cup final itself.

Both teams have everything to play for - victory will see Portugal progress to the last 16, while a draw or a win for Korea will see the co-hosts in the second round.

Portugal shook off the despair of their defeat by the United States in the first game of Group D to thump Poland 4-0 in Jeonju on Monday.

Real Madrid star Figo insists the side will be brimming with confidence for the game in Incheon in front of the fanatical Korean supporters.

Figo said: "They have prepared well and have a lot of good qualities. In Guus Hiddink they have a good coach and he has instilled a good mentality in the side.

"We can't afford to think about the next stage, just this match. They will have all their fans behind them and it is going to be just like playing in the final.

"But it is not one country against another, not 45million people against 12million, but 11 men against 11 men."

Portugal were indebted to Pauleta for a superb hat-trick against Poland, and the Bordeaux striker - footballer of the year in France last season - has at least solved their goal-scoring problem.

Manager Antonio Oliveira will have a dilemma about who to pick in midfield though, after Rui Costa, the AC Milan midfielder who was so poor against the USA, came on as a second-half substitute and put in an inspired half-hour.

He created one goal for Pauleta and scored the fourth himself.

Figo claimed that whoever Oliveira picks, Portugal are in a strong position.

He added: "In the first match we played as individuals not as a team, but against Poland, there were none of those problems."
