Arsenal striker Kanu has ruled himself out of Nigeria's World Cup clash with
England on Wednesday because of a foot injury sustained in training.
The incident happened at an open training session at Maeshima, where the
23-man Nigeria squad were preparing for their final Group F match.
Kanu took part in light stretching and running exercises before appearing to
pull up. While the rest of the squad continued to train, Kanu then limped to the
sidelines where his left foot was packed with ice and then bandaged.
He said afterwards: ``I know most of the England players so I'd like to play
but I'm not going to be on the pitch - I can't take the risk.''
``I was injured after 10 minutes against Argentina and then I came on as a
substitute against Sweden and I shouldn't have played then.''
Nigeria cannot go through to the knockout stages of the World Cup, having lost
their group matches against Argentina and Sweden.
However, Kanu believes the team can cope without him, adding on
www.thisislondon: ``For the people back home there would be a lot of
satisfaction in knocking England out.''
