Man of the match: Pauleta not only scored three goals but was the thorn in the side of the Polish defence all night.

90 min: Rui Costa sees another shot cleared off the line by Hajto after he and Pauleta slice the defence open yet again.

90 min: There will be three extra minutes.

89 min: Olisadebe gets down the right but his cross is comfortably headed clear by Couto.

87 min: GOAL RUI COSTA. Portugal break three on two again and Rui Costa feeds Capucho on the right then races into the middle to slide in to convert the Porto winger's low cross.

87 min: Pauleta is offside as Capucho's pass splits open the ragged Polish defence but fires wide anyway.

86 min: Rui Costa finds Figo on the left but Bak gets back at the last minute to stop the cross reaching Capucho.

85 min: Pauleta is behind the defence again and goes round Dudek but loses the angle and can only shoot into the side-netting.

84 min: Poland attack again but Marcin Zewlakow volleys Bak's deep cross into the side-netting.

83 min: Kryszalowicz wastes Poland's best chance of the night when he spoons Marcin Zewlakow's cross-shot over the top from four yards.

82 min: Kozminski crosses from the right but Arkadiusz Bak is beaten to the ball at the last minute by Beto's covering header.

81 min: Pauleta and Rui Costa almost worked another gap in the box but the flag goes up for offside as Pauleta waits to collect the final ball.

80 min: The corner kick is headed out to where Swierczewski is waiting but Baia is able to smother his tame shot.

79 min: Swierczewski seizes on a loose ball 30 yards out and sees his shot deflected away for a corner.

77 min: GOAL PAULETA. Pauleta completes a memorable hat-trick after being released by Rui Costa's superb pass and he turns past Waldoch and fires a left-foot shot past Dudek.

76 min: Rui Jorge causes havoc down the left and when his cross is headed out, Petit seizes on it and drives a left-foot shot just wide of the post.

75 min: Krzynowek's flag kick is headed over the top of Waldoch.

74 min: Olisadebe's hustling forces Beto to concede a corner.

73 min: Kozminski races down the right and goes down under Figo's challenge but the ref waves play on.

50 min: Pinto tries to find Frechaut breaking down the right but the offside flag is up.

49 min: Swierczewski is clear racing towards the box for a moment but Jorge Costa comes across to halt his progress.

48 min: Frechaut is body-checked down the right by Bak but the free kick looking for Pinto in the inside right channel is too long.

47 min: Olisadebe bustles his way down the middle and when he is crowded out, the ball rebounds back to Arkadiusz Bak who slices his shot badly wide.

45 min: Baia rushes from his line as Kryszalowicz tries to release Olisadebe who has beaten the offside trap.

41 min: Pinto tumbles under another challenge, this time from Hajto who appeared to stamp on the player while on the ground. Dallas consults his linesman but does not dish out any punishment.

40 min: Pinto is tripped by Arkadiusz Bak just 23 yards out and Figo's free kick is fired under the jumping wall but with not enough pace to trouble Dudek.

39 min: Olisadebe steps round Frechaut and crosses to Kryszalowicz who is crowded out but the ball comes back to the lanky striker who now shoots straight at Baia.

37 min: Figo at last finds some magic to reach the goal-line but his pull back is hit tamely at Dudek by Petit.

36 min: Pinto is tripped on the left touchline and Figo's free kick is punched clear by Dudek.

35 min: Kryszalowicz wins a long ball downfield and flicks on for Olisadebe but the offside flag is up.

34 min: Kryszalowicz sends a low cross to the near post and Baia claims as Olisadebe slides in.

33 min: Rui Jorge becomes the fourth player booked for a foul on the breaking Kryszalowicz.

32 min: A quick free kick from the alert Pinto finds Pauleta breaking into the box but Dudek races from his line to get a vital touch and the Portugal striker goes down but no penalty is given.

30 min: The rain is absolutely pouring down and consequently there are a lot of fouls and miscontrols.

29 min: Poland send a testing ball into the box which Couto heads clear but Krzynowek's return shot is blocked.

28 min: Jorge Costa is booked for a foul on Olisadebe.

27 min: Figo's free kick is played short and then back to the Real Madrid star who is robbed before he can play it again.

26 min: Frechaut becomes the first Portuguese booked for a late tackle on Krzynowek.

24 min: Conceicao finds Pauleta peeling away on the far side again and he steps inside two challenges before hitting a rising drive over the bar.

23 min: When the kick is taken, it is over-hit and slammed clear by Kozminski.

22 min: Conceicao is chopped down on the right touchline and Swierczewski is booked for pulling before the free kick comes in.

20 min: Figo is tripped 30 yards from goal on the left but it is touched to Conceicao whose shot screams well wide.

19 min: Zurawski's free kick from the left is sent into a packed area but Vitor Baia claims confidently at the far post.

18 min: Poland take another corner which is headed out by Fernando Couto only to Swierczewski whose volley flies just over the bar.

17 min: Kaluzny is taken off and replaced by Arkadiusz Bak.

16 min: Poland respond with a corner which falls to Swierczewski whose shot is blocked by a forest of legs.

14 min: GOAL PAULETA. Frechaut is back on and immediately finds Joao Pinto whose crossfield pass finds Pauleta on the far side of the penalty area. He cuts inside Hajto and fires past Dudek at his near post.

14 min: Frechaut is stretchered off for Portugal who carry on with 10 men for the time being.

13 min: Poland counter quickly and when the ball is played back to Kaluzny, he blasts a long-range shot well over the bar.

12 min: Figo's corner is headed out by Waldoch but only to Pauleta in the D and his first-time volley is well saved by Dudek.

11 min: Pauleta gets round the back of the Polish defence and drills a low ball across the six-yard box which nobody can get a touch on.

10 min: Rui Jorge drifts inside and finds Pauleta whose 25-yard curler is only inches wide.

9 min: Kaluzny trips Pinto 40 yards out but Portugal waste the free kick.

8 min: Olisadebe escapes down the right but from his cut-back, Radoslav Kaluzny cannot find Maciej Zurawski on the left-hand side of the box.

7 min: Petit tries to release Conceicao in the inside right channel but his attempted chip is too easy for Jerzy Dudek.

5 min: Frechaut is robbed on the halfway line by Kryszalowicz, who has Emmanuel Olisadebe breaking ahead of him but the ball forward is too strong.

4 min: Pauleta is fouled by Tomasz Hajto on the touchline but Luis Figo's free kick is easily dealt with.

3 min: Pawel Kryszalowicz makes space down the left but Frechaut is across to halt the run.

2 min: Sergio Conceicao's exquisite dummy creates space down the left but Joao Pinto dallies and is robbed.
