BELGIUM v TUNISIA MINUTE-BY-MINUTE
By James Dart, Sportinglife.com
Final score: Belgium 1 Tunisia 1
Man-of-the-match: Not a game to stick in the memory, but the impressive Marc Wilmots deserves the accolade for his intelligence and good play. Scored Belgium's goal and did his best to inspire his team-mates on an under-par day.
90 mins: That is full-time and a result that will possibly suit Tunisia more than it does Belgium. The Belgians were disappointing and struggled in the hot conditions and now face a tough final game with Russia that they will need to win in order to progress. Tunisia also must beat Japan to further their interests as well.
90 mins: Another good late shot from Ghodbane as his 30-yard drive goes a couple of feet over the bar.
90 mins: Sonck bursts towards the Tunisian penalty area and sees his toe-poke on the stretch fly a yard wide of the left-hand post.
90 mins: De Vlieger is forced to pull off a competent save as Ghodbane's shot from the edge of the Belgian area is hit straight at the stopper, who fists it to safety.
90 mins: As four minutes of added-time are signalled for, Ben Aschour's corner is headed long and clear. Back comes the ball into the Belgian area and Van Buyten knocks it behind again.
89 mins: A late push from Tunisia and Trabelsi exchanges passes with Zitouni and wins a late corner.
88 mins: Deflandre stands a high ball up into the six-yard area and Tunisia goalkeeper Boumnijel makes a hash of his attempted catch, but gets away with it.
87 mins: A final change by Tunisia as Melki leaves the field and Zoubeir Baya comes on for a late run-out.
86 mins: With the clock running down, it looks now as though we are heading for a 1-1 draw.
85 mins: Belgium look urgent as they bid for a late winner, but their early dominance from this half appears to be draining away.
84 mins: The short corner routine ends with Ben Aschour picking out Badra around ten yards out, but he mistimes his leap and heads well over from a good position.
83 mins: Ghodbane elects to take a shot on goal, and despite hitting it well, De Boeck leaps to get a head on it and deflect it behind.
82 mins: A free-kick to Tunisia as Ben Aschour goes to ground under Van Buyten's outstretched leg.
81 mins: Zitouni gets on the end of a ball from Melki - now recovered - but the young forward tries to do too much on his own and Belgium crowd him out.
79 mins: Melki stays down after going up for a header. This enables the Tunisians to slow the game down a little. Hopefully he is not injured too badly.
78 mins: Tunisia coach Souayah decides to take striker Jaziri off, with 20-year-old Ali Zitouni coming on for the remaining 12 minutes-plus.
77 mins: Vermant whips a cross in with pace, but as everyone darts into the six-yard box, his cross is behind the lot of them.
76 mins: Mpenza's persistence wins a free-kick for Belgium near the by-line on the right.
75 mins: A good cross into the Belgian danger area fails to create anything due to a lack of numbers in there for the African side.
74 mins: Belgium do make their third substitution with Mbo Mpenza taking the place of Simons.
73 mins: It looks as if Belgium coach Waseige is poised to make a final change.
72 mins: Jaziri turns in some tireless work in the Belgian half with three successive sliding tackles to raise the morale of his team.
70 mins: Vanderhaeghe lets fly with a shot from distance, but it catches the back of Wilmots and deflects wide for a goal-kick.
69 mins: Just a minute later and another yellow card for a Tunisian player. Melki is the man booked for a foul on Deflandre.
68 mins: Trabelsi goes into the referee's book for tugging back Goor as he attempts to break down the left.
67 mins: Tunisia coach Souayah makes his first substitution with Gabsi going off and Adel Sellimi taking his place.
66 mins: Wilmots now chests the ball down intelligently for Sonck, but the striker is not on the same wavelength and Boumnijel collects.
65 mins: After a short delay, Vermant sends the ball into the Tunisian area, but Trabelsi heads away.
64 mins: Tunisia continue to sit back and now they concede a free-kick wide on the right.
63 mins: Good save by Boumnijel with his feet, as Goor finds a yard of space clear inside the left edge of the Tunisian area. His shot is on target, but the advancing 'keeper does well to save.
61 mins: A sweeping pass from Yves Vanderhaeghe picks out Sonck wide on the right, but his control lets him down and Jaidi can recover.
60 mins: As the game reaches the hour-mark, Goor chances his arm with a 30-yard strike which he hits well, but fails to beat his marker.
59 mins: Since half-time the better play has clearly come from Belgium, but they badly need to press home their current advantage with a tough final group game against Russia still to come.
58 mins: De Boeck finds space outside the Tunisian box, but his attempt to hit the bouncing ball sees it fly high and over the crossbar.
57 mins: Corner to Belgium as Bouazizi is forced to concede. Vermant hits the flag-kick far too deep though, and Trabelsi has the simple task of heading clear.
55 mins: A superb cross into the Tunisian penalty area sees Sonck just fail to connect with the ball ahead of Boumnijel. An escape for Tunisia.
54 mins: Van Buyten is caught by Jaziri's stray elbow, but the referee does not see it as a foul.
53 mins: Belgium are upping the tempo as they now win a corner. It is curled in by Simons, but Boumnijel wins a free-kick.
52 mins: Good delivery from a Simons free-kick, but Sonck's header fails to really connect.
50 mins: The move of the match involving Trabelsi and Jaziri down the right. The latter's cross is met by Ghodbane on the volley from 22 yards out, but it curls just the wrong side of the post from his perspective with de Vlieger at full stretch.
49 mins: Good movement from substitute Sonck for Belgium and he sends in a deep cross that Boumnijel does well to catch.
48 mins: The free-kick is curled in by Bouzaine, but it is headed clear by Van Buyten.
47 mins: Jaziri is felled midway inside the Belgian half as Tunisia start the half brightly.
46 mins: Two changes from Belgium during the interval with Verheyen and Strupar coming off. Wesley Sonck and Sven Vermant are now on for Waseige's side.
HT: Belgium 1 Tunisia 1
45 mins: Half-time ends a good first period which has seen Tunisia surprise Belgium by being the better side. Belgian chances have been few and far between, whilst the African team deserved to equalise and then probably should have powered ahead in a period of dominance soon after. The game is nicely set up for the second half.
45 mins: The cross is deep towards Badra, but he is unable to direct his header on goal. Two minutes of added-time will be played.
44 mins: A free-kick to Tunisia down in the right corner of the field as Trabelsi goes to ground after Van Der Heyden's tackle.
43 mins: Jaziri, showing no signs of his earlier heavy knock, speeds past three defenders, but with support lacking, finds himself having too much work to do to beat another two.
42 mins: Another yellow card as Ghodbane gets a grip of Peter Van Der Heyden's shirt as he gains half-a-yard down the left flank.
41 mins: Jaziri continues to be treated by the Tunisian medical team on the sidelines. They patch him up and he returns to the action.
40 mins: A really poor tackle from behind by Daniel Van Buyten on Jaziri earns the Belgian a booking. Jaziri stays down to be stretchered off.
38 mins: Trabelsi beats his marker down the right and crosses well into the penalty area. De Vlieger and then Deflandre combine to clear as Jaziri lurks dangerously.
37 mins: De Boeck is robbed by Jaziri inside the Belgian half, but the defender is lucky to be awarded a dubious free-kick.
36 mins: Goalscorer Wilmots takes a blow on his head and he leaves the field temporarily to receive treatment to a bleeding wound.
35 mins: Simons takes the corner, but there is pushing inside the Tunisian area and the Africans are given the benefit of the doubt for a free-kick.
34 mins: A long throw from Simons is headed behind by Jaidi inside his own six-yard box.
33 mins: Jaziri is now adjudged to have committed a needless foul in an almost identical spot to the last free-kick. Wilmots hits it this time, but his shot is shocking and doesn't beat the wall.
32 mins: Free-kick to Belgium around 30 yards out, but Strupar's effort is disappointing and only reaches the melee inside the penalty box.
31 mins: Better play from Belgium as Tunisia concede possession too easily.
30 mins: As we reach the half-hour-mark, Tunisian coach Ammar Souayah will surely be the happier than his opposite number Robert Waseige, for the Belgians are yet to get into the game, despite having taken the lead.
29 mins: Good Tunisian football down their right flank ends with Kaies Ghodbane's cross flying behind for a goal-kick.
28 mins: A good ball is whipped in by Deflandre this time, but it is taken off the head of Goor by his team-mate Verheyen.
27 mins: Deflandre takes the set piece, but fails to beat the two-man wall and the ball goes behind for a corner.
26 mins: Patient build-up from Belgium and Verheyen wins a free-kick wide on the right that will enable them to bring up their big men from the back.
25 mins: After all the action of the last 15 minutes or so, the game has settled down a little, although the Tunisians continue to look lively.
24 mins: The corner is taken by Simons, but Boumnijel is adjudged to have been blocked as he comes out to collect and Tunisia can clear their lines.
23 mins: Wilmots plays the ball in to Bart Goor inside the Tunisian penalty area and the Belgian uses his strength to turn and see his shot deflected over the bar.
22 mins: The first booking of the game is given to Gabsi for playacting by the Australian referee Mark Shield. He now misses the next game through suspension.
21 mins: It is all Tunisia at the moment and they probably should be ahead for the comparative chances that they have created.
20 mins: Belgium appear to have cleared their lines, but suddenly an astute pass from Badra plays in Jaziri, whose shot on the stretch inside the Belgian box flies just wide of de Vlieger's goal.
19 mins: Ben Achour takes the corner, but it is turned behind again.
18 mins: Tunisia have their tails up and Melki is unlucky not to win a corner as Deflandre slides through the back of the African player inside his own box. A corner is all that is given.
17 mins: GOAL BOUZAINE - Raouf Bouzaine takes the free-kick and curls it delightfully around the wall and past de Vlieger and into the net. A great goal.
16 mins: Ben Achour drifts the ball into the box, only for it to headed out. The same player recovers the ball and dances past two tackles before being tripped in a central location 25 yards out.
15 mins: Another free-kick to Tunisia in an attacking position on the right of the Belgian half.
14 mins: Hassen Gabsi looks to bring Tunisia level quickly with a spectacular scissor-kick attempt from Hatem Trabelsi's cross. He makes contact with the centre, but not perfectly and it rolls through to de Vlieger.
13 mins: GOAL WILMOTS - The Belgian playmaker scores his second goal of the competition with his side's first real chance of the game. A deep cross flies over the head of Boumnijel and when it is turned back in via the head of Strupar, Wilmots is there to convert past the prone goalkeeper from close range.
12 mins: Most of the attacking threat is coming from the African side, but they still lack any real incision in the final third of the field.
11 mins: Ziad Jaziri turns well to win Tunisia a free-kick midway inside the Belgium half.
10 mins: Nice combination work from Riadh Bouazizi and Ben Achour almost release the latter, but again he is blocked by De Boeck.
9 mins: Ben Achour continues to look like Tunisia's most dangerous player in these early stages, but he is yet to trouble goalkeeper Geert de Vlieger.
7 mins: Tunisia build confidently with Ben Achour, but he is eventually crowded out by four Belgian defenders.
6 mins: Timmy Simons fires in a shot from distance, but he catches it on the rise and it sails over the bar tamely.
5 mins: Much of Belgium's play goes through Wilmots and here he looks to pick out Gert Verheyen with a raking 45-yard ball, just over-hitting it on this occasion.
4 mins: Mourad Melki, brought into the team after not starting in the opening 2-0 loss to Russia, lets fly with an ambitious shot from 40 yards out, only to slice it behind for a goal-kick.
3 mins: It's now a free-kick to Tunisia in a similar location at the other end of the field. Slim Ben Achour curls the ball into the Belgian penalty area, but also out of it as it flies behind for a goal-kick.
2 mins: Belgium win a free-kick as Marc Wilmots is fouled by Radhi Jaidi around 35 yards out from goal. A shot is fired in by Wilmots, but it bobbles through to Tunisian goalkeeper Ali Boumnijel.
1 min: An Australian referee is in charge today for this game and he gets the action started.
Pre-match: As Oita staged its first game at these finals, the teams lined up needing points from a win in order to move up the Group H table. For Belgium, Eric Deflandre, Glen De Boeck and Branko Strupar all came in to the side.
