BRAZIL v CHINA MINUTE-BY-MINUTE
By Jonathan Turner, Sportinglife.com
Final score: Brazil 4 China 0
Man of the match: There's a temptation to nominate Ronaldinho even though he only played in the first half, so outstanding was he in that time with two 'assists' and a goal. But the vote just goes to Cafu who was a danger throughout down the right and at the heart of many of Brazil's best moves.
90mins: It's all over and while Brazil were always expected to win this game you've still got to be impressed by the clinical manner in which they did so - especially in the light of shock defeats for the likes of France, Italy and Portugal. Indeed surely Brazil must now be the clear favourites with the bookies for a fifth World Cup.
90mins: There are two minutes of added time.
90mins: Cafu again races clear and is on goal but Jiang Jin responds well and just gets out in time to make the save.
89mins: Cafu breaks clear down the right but on this occasion his ball inside to Rivaldo isn't quite inch-perfect and China clear the danger.
87mins: China are playing some of their best football of the match now which is all credit to them as they could easily have been overrun in the second half.
86mins: China do win the ball back eventually and after a nice one-two Qu Bo gets a half chance but the ball is well smothered by Marcos.
85mins: Brazil are just stroking it around in the middle of the park now as the clock winds down.
84mins: Wu Chenying and Yang Pu combine well down the left for China but they can't quite get the ball into the area and Brazil once again assume control.
83mins: Qu Bo has done really well since he came on and another strong run causes consternation in the Brazil defence but eventually they work the ball clear.
82mins: Marcos has little difficulty in gathering the corner.
81mins: A good tackle from Roque Junior prevents Qu Bo from getting in a shot on the Brazil goal, albeit at the expense of a corner.
80mins: The game is winding down now with the result never having been in doubt and Brazil are poised to book their place in the second round.
78mins: Brazil win a corner down the left but when it's swung in by Denilson it's headed clear by China.
77mins: Lucio clears up well as China briefly threaten the Brazil goal.
76mins: There are immediately two men on Denilson when he picks up the ball down the left and he's unable to break free of the shackles.
75mins: Denilson again struggles to find space down the left so Brazil work the ball across to the right where Cafu has been a key figure but on this occasion the Chinese defence holds firm.
74mins: There's another substitution as China send on Qu Bo for Hao Haidong.
73mins: Brazil have understandably eased down a little now but that doesn't stop Gilberto Silva firing in a shot from the right-hand edge of the area which is just kept out by Jiang Jin.
72mins: Another change for Brazil as Ronaldo is replaced by Edilson.
71mins: It's so nearly 5-0 for Brazil as Ronaldo fires in two shots from close range but Jiang Jin saves both well.
70mins: Brazil make a change when Ricardinho is sent on for Juninho.
69mins: A great free-kick from Shao Jiayi really tests Marcos in the Brazil goal but there's still no way through for China.
68mins: Roque Junior is yellow carded after a foul on Xu Yunlong and China win a free-kick.
67mins: China are being allowed more of the ball now but Li Xaiopeng can't control it out on the right and their latest attack breaks down.
66mins: Cafu makes an excellent last-ditch challenge after good work from Yang Pu who has looked lively since he came on.
65mins: Skipper Qi Hong is replaced by Shao Jiayi as China make their second change.
64mins: Yang Pu makes a positive start as he breaks from midfield but once again China can't produce the final ball to hurt Brazil.
63mins: It's all Brazil as they pass the ball around at will.
62mins: Brazil looked odds-on for a fifth as they break swiftly but Denilson is the man caught offside this time.
61mins: That proves to be Ma Mingyu's last contribution as he's replaced by Yang Pu.
60mins: Remarkably there's another chance for Ma Mingyu and this time he does get a shot in only to see it ricochet off the post.
59mins: China had an opportunity to break their World Cup duck when Ma Mingyu is put clear but he doesn't have the legs to break free of the Brazilian defence and the chance goes begging.
58mins: A magical ball from Juninho plays in Cafu but he can't quite turn it into the net and it stays 4-0.
57mins: Brazil are completely dominant now and there's no telling how many goals they could rack up if they stick to their task.
56mins: It's almost been a mirror image of the beginning of the first half with China enjoying much of the early possession without looking dangerous only to get caught out as soon as Brazil attack.
55mins: GOAL - RONALDO. It's all too easy for Brazil as Cafu brilliantly controls a long ball and squares it to Ronaldo who taps into an empty net. He's now joined Rivaldo on the two-goal mark for the tournament.
54mins: Good play again down the left by China but once again Brazil stand firm and win back possession.
53mins: A lovely ball from Juninho looks to have set Ronaldo clear on goal but the flag goes up for offside. It was a marginal decision.
52mins: Arguably China's best moment of the match as they break quickly through Li Xiaopeng who takes advantage of Roberto Carlos being caught out of position but when he crosses the ball into the area there's no one there to take advantage.
51mins: China are passing the ball about well but Lucio breaks up their latest attack.
50mins: China have started the half well - just as they did in the first period - and Xu Yunlong makes it tough for Roberto Carlos but the Real Madrid man eventually gets the better of him.
49mins: Ma Mingyu makes space for an ambitious shot 35 yards out but it's well wide of the Brazil net.
48mins: Denilson is straight into the action as he bursts down the left but China get enough men around him to clear the danger. He then threads a ball through to Roberto Carlos but the offside flag goes up.
47mins: A long throw from Roberto Carlos briefly causes panic in the China area but Lucio is penalised.
46mins: We're under way again in Seogwipo with Brazil on cruise control towards their second victory of the tournament. They have made one change, taking off the outstanding Ronaldinho and bringing on Denilson.
45mins: The whistle goes to end the half and for the last 30 minutes or so it's been a magical display by Brazil who thoroughly deserve their 3-0 lead.
45mins: Cafu's low cross causes havoc in the China area but neither Ronaldo or Juninho can apply the finishing touch.
45mins: There will be two minutes of additional time but the half-time whistle can't come quick enough for China.
45mins: GOAL - RONALDINHO. Rivaldo took Brazil's penalty against Turkey but this time the honour goes to Ronaldinho and the result is the same as he strokes it home.
44mins: It's a penalty to Brazil after Ronaldo is pulled down on the penalty spot just as he's about to pull the trigger.
43mins: Brazil are really turning on the style now and China are being run ragged. However Ma Mingyu gives them a breather with a run down the left which comes to nothing.
42mins: Ronaldinho wins a free-kick after his shirt is tugged. Thankfully this time he's not booked!
41mins: Ronaldinho's cross from the left is aimed in towards Ronaldo but he's always stretching and his header sails over the bar.
40mins: It's already 2-0 to Brazil and the ominous thing for China is Brazil are looking more and more dangerous.
39mins: Ronaldinho and Juninho link up brilliantly in the area but the cut-back is gratefully hacked clear by China.
38mins: A raking ball from Roberto Carlos so nearly sets Ronaldinho free down the left but it just runs out of play.
37mins: The best chance of the match for China falls to Ma Mingyu but his shot is deflected over the bar. The subsequent corner causes all sorts of problems with Marcos unable to gather and Roberto Carlos is forced to head out for another flag kick. This time Marcos does hold on to the ball.
36mins: After a slight delay Roberto Carlos lashes in the free-kick but this time it's tame by comparison to his earlier effort and goes straight into the wall.
35mins: A lovely turn from Juninho fools Li Tie who concedes a free-kick in a similar position to where the first goal came from.
34mins: The corner comes to nothing but once again Brazil retain possession and build slowly again from the back.
33mins: Good work from Ronaldo in the centre of the park frees Juninho and when he plays it into the area Ronaldo is so nearly on the end of it but China hack it out for a corner.
32mins: GOAL - RIVALDO. Just when it seemed the pace had dropped, Brazil strike. A great cross from the right by Cafu is picked up on the other flank by Ronaldinho and when he plays the ball across, Rivaldo is on hand to turn it into the net. It's 2-0 to Brazil and Rivaldo's second goal of the tournament.
30mins: The first real lull of the match but it's still Brazil who remain firmly in control.
28mins: Ronaldo, who has been quiet so far, gets a rare touch on the edge of the area and the ball breaks to Anderson Polga but his shot is high and wide.
27mins: Roberto Carlos latches on to a ball over the top down the left but his cross evades everyone in the six yard box and China escape.
26mins: Gilberto Silva gives away a free-kick down the left which gives China an opportunity to get the ball into the box but Wu Chenying's delivery is poor and Brazil win back possession.
25mins: Brazil are enjoying the bulk of the possession now and it's going to be hard for China to get back on level terms.
24mins: It's confirmed that it was Ronaldinho who received the game's first yellow card and not surprisingly he looks bemused as his shirt was definitely being tugged.
23mins: A wonderful crossfield pass from Rivaldo finds Ronaldinho whose control matches the quality of the ball. Brazil build steadily down the left and look to have been awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area when Du Wei pulls back Ronaldinho. However it emerges that it's the Brazilian who is harshly booked for diving.
22mins: Cafu does well to make space and get a cross in and the ball eventually finds its way to Roberto Carlos. This time his shot is well off target but it deflects off a Chinese player for a Brazil corner which comes to nothing.
21mins: We're under way again after the stoppage with Xu Yunlong okay to continue.
19mins: There's a break in play when Xu Yunlong, who's been one of China's better players so far, needs treatment for a bang on the head after a clash with Ronaldinho.
18mins: Cafu breaks clear down the left and fires in a shot which is parried well but a ball across the area to Ronaldo might have been the better option.
17mins: Juninho tries an impudent flick in the centre of the park which doesn't quite come off but it's a warning that Brazil are starting to get into their stride.
16mins: The goal - somewhat against the run of play - has stunned the Chinese.
15mins: GOAL - ROBERTO CARLOS. The best free-kick of the tournament so far as his fierce left-footed drive powers into the net. It's 1-0 to Brazil but it's worth pointing out that was their first shot on target in the match.
14mins: It's a free-kick to Brazil when Ronaldinho is body-checked 30 yards out.
13mins: Rivaldo has to come back to help his defence which is being put under pressure by China's attacking play.
12mins: A China attack breaks down when Li Tie's pass is overhit but they are maintaining their bright start to the match.
11mins: Ronaldinho has ghosted down the right for Brazil and gets a cross in when under pressure near the corner flag but it's straight into Jiang Jin's arms.
10mins: The game is swinging from end to end and China break quickly when Brazil get caught in possession but again the end product doesn't have any real bite to it.
9mins: Cafu and Juninho links up effectively down the right for Brazil but Juninho's ball into the box is too close to the keeper.
8mins: Good play from Xu Yunlong puts Roberto Carlos under pressure down the right flank but when the cross is swung in it's calmly gathered by Marcos.
7mins: Brazil are struggling to get into their rhythm and Juninho twice gives the ball away in the space of a few seconds.
6mins: Ronaldinho wins the first corner of the game for Brazil but it's taken short and again the attack is stopped when Roberto Carlos strays offside.
5mins: Shanghai player Wu Chenying gets forward well from left back but his shot is blocked and the danger cleared by Brazil.
4mins: Ronaldinho almost plays in Ronaldo but the move is brought to an abrupt halt by the offside flag.
4mins: The first shot of the match comes in from China's Du Wei but it fails to threaten the Brazilian net.
3mins: China have seen plenty of the ball early on which should have given them a measure of confidence. Hao Haidong produces a powerful run at the Brazilian defence but Cafu and co marshall the ball to safety.
2mins: Li Weifeng calmly heads the ball back to his keeper as Brazil launch the first attack of the match.
1min: Swedish referee Anders Frisk gets the action under way in Seogwipo. This is China's much-travelled coach Bora Milutinovic's third encounter against Brazil in the World Cup.
He lost 1-0 to the South Americans with Costa Rica at Italia 90 and by the same scoreline with the United States at USA 94.
Pre-match: Seogwipo is the venue for this Group C clash with Brazil looking for a second straight win after their hard-fought opening success over Turkey. They are massive odds-on with the bookies but after recent shock defeats for the likes of Italy, France and Portugal perhaps we shouldn't take anything for granted. The Brazilians have made just the one
change with Gremio defender Anderson Polga replacing Edmilson.
Manchester City's Sun Jihai and Dundee's Fan Zhiyi were the fall guys from
China's opening defeat to Costa Rica and both were relegated to the bench.
