Rivaldo and Cafu celebrate against China (Allsport).
SCOLARI KEEPS LEVEL HEAD
Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was refusing to let his thoughts drift
towards the next phase after his side beat China 4-0 to make it two wins out of
two in Group C.
Goals from Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo saw them stamp
their authority on the World Cup debutants.
"For the moment it is too early to think about next round because we are
still not there," said Scolari.
"We have to wait and see then think about the opponent we will have.
"I know the team is getting better match by match so I hope they can keep on
improving."
He added: "We knew China would start with pressure so we decided to wait 10
to 15 minutes then we started to play our way.
"We knew we were technically superior to China so we waited our time.
"We also knew what they were capable of and we did our best against the
oponnents we had, but we realised we were better because we are more experienced
but it was still a good match.
Chinese coach Bora Milutinovic must be sick of the sight of Brazil and he has
now lost to them three times at the World Cup with three different teams.
None of his sides - Costa Rica at Italia 90, the United States at USA 94 and
now China - could even manage a goal let alone a point and this was his biggest
drubbing at Brazil's hands.
However, the Yugoslav refused to be too downhearted and after China's poor
showing on their World Cup debut in their defeat to Costa Rica, he took solace
from this performance.
Indeed China came close to that first elusive World Cup goal when Zhao Junzhe
hit the post.
"I thought we played well tactically and showed a lot of determination," he
said.
"You need to understand where Brazil are and where we are. Against Costa Rica
we made too many mistakes, but against Brazil we played well.
"We need to repeat the way we played this time if we are to have some chance
against the Turkish team in our last match."
Ronaldo is confident he can score the goals that will take Brazil to the World
Cup Final.
The Brazil striker, who claims he is fully fit after his injury nightmare,
netted his second of the tournament in the rout of China in the Jeju Stadium and
he feels he can score in every game.
"I had confidence in the beginning and the team is continuing to improve,"
said the Inter Milan star.
"I've had more time to participate in games, although the coach had some
worries.
"I think I can score more goals now. I believe I can score a goal in every
match. I feel great.
"I want to get to the final. I think the team is getting better and I believe
we can get to the final match."
