NO DOUBTING TURKS' ABILITY

Turkey need to shake off the post-match sulks which are still hanging over from their defeat by Brazil if they are to show their true colours in this World Cup.

The Turks were livid with the Korean referee Kim Young-joo for several decisions against Brazil, including sending off two defenders, though in truth they had little to complain about despite Rivaldo's antics.

Costa Rica are next, and referees have continued to dominate Turkish minds with FIFA rejecting their demand to replace match official Coffi Codjia from Benin.

What Turkey really need to do is to take the positives from their match with Brazil, such as the fact that they matched one of the best sides in the world.

Bayer Leverkusen's skilful playmaker Yildiray Basturk won many admirers in the Brazilian side, as did Galatasaray's Hasan Sas, and against Costa Rica should be able to make more use of their Parma striker Hakan Sukur.

Hakan Sukur said: "Whatever else happened against Brazil, we have showed that we can play good football.

"I'm sure that we will win the two remaining matches. We are strong enough to beat Costa Rica and China and it will be a great disappointment if we do not.

"I was marked by three men against Brazil - I can handle two but with three there was nothing I can do. With luck, I will get more space against Costa Rica."

Turkey will be without Aston Villa's Alpay and Blackburn's Hakan Unsal, as both defenders were red-carded against Brazil and have one-match bans.

Costa Rica have a worry over influential midfielder Harold Wallace, who has a groin strain, for the game at Incheon, Korea.

Coach Alexandre Guimaraes said: "We are looking at a different formation based on him being missing but there is still a chance he can play and we will wait for the medical staff to give their verdict.

"We know we cannot afford to play anyone who is not fully fit."
