90 min: Thuram is halted by Montero but wins a corner and France bring on Christophe Dugarry for Wiltord.

90 min: Abreu plays a one-two with Magallanes and the sub gets clear but fires his shot against Barthez's legs.

90 min: Lizarazu slips Wiltord through the middle but Sorondo makes a brilliant last-ditch block.

79 min: Uruguay try to slow it down before finding Recoba breaking down the left and when he crosses, Varela is tripped 30 yards out by Lizarazu.

77 min: Micoud goes down in the area after getting a flailing arm in the face from Magallanes but recovers after treatment.

76 min: Vieira pressures Lembo into a mistake but when the ball is sent forward, Trezeguet is just offside.

75 min: Thuram raids down the right but Montero blocks his cross and blasts the ball upfield.

73 min: Uruguay bring on Guigou for Rodriguez.

72 min: Micoud's chip into the box is headed down by Trezeguet and Micoud rifles the loose ball narrowly wide.

70 min: Wiltord finds space in the corner of the area but his shot is blocked at the expense of a corner and Uruguay bring on Gonzalo de los Santos for Romero.

69 min: Micoud's free kick around the wall is superbly saved by Carini.

68 min: Wiltord's ball to the D finds Trezeguet who is tripped as he tried to turn on the edge of the box.

67 min: France return the ball to the area and Vieira's leap beats Carini to the ball and when it bounces, Trezeguet's overhead kick is hacked off the line by Sorondo.

66 min: Trezeguet turns quickly away from Montero and races into the box but he is halted by Sorondo as he tries to turn inside for a shot.

65 min: Recoba's ball finds Varela down the right and Lizarazu stops him at the expense of a corner.

63 min: Recoba wins a corner on the right and Magallanes takes it quickly to Recoba who is two feet wide with a curling effort from the corner of the area.

62 min: Varela fouls Lizarazu on the left and Vieira's free kick tries to release Wiltord but he is penalised for pushing.

61 min: Uruguay bring on Federico Magallanes for the controversial Silva.

60 min: Carini comes from his area to collect a long ball from Petit but tries to let it run into the area but hacks clear as Trezeguet closes in.

59 min: Uruguay break again and Recoba's back-heel frees Abreu whose low 20-yard shot is straight at Barthez.

58 min: Candela skins Rodriguez down the right and gets right to the bye-line where his low cross hits Carini's chest and bounces clear.

57 min: Vieira slips Trezeguet through the middle but Carini makes a super point-blank save.

56 min: Trezeguet feeds on Petit's ball towards the conrer and whips over a looping cross which Uruguay head clear.

54 min: Recoba is free yet again and Barthez races from goal but misses the ball but Recoba, having beaten the keeper, shoots from a tight angle into the side-netting with the French goal totally empty.

53 min: Silva's ball releases Recoba down the left and he cuts in and hits a vicious shot which Barthez blocks but cannot hold.

52 min: Petit's corner is met by Desailly but his header flies over the top.

51 min Wiltord teases Rodriguez again and lays it back for Candela's curling shot which Carini tips over.

50 min: A long punt downfield by Desailly finds Wiltord behind the Uruguay defence but his chip is not strong enough to beat the stranded keeper.

49 min: Silva is yellow-carded for a sly tug on Lizarazu as he escaped down the left.

47 min: Petit finds Wiltord free down the right and squares the ball for Micoud whose attempted chip to Trezeguet in the box is far too strong.

46 min: The second half is under way with 10-man France needing to get something from the game to keep their campaign alive.

45 min: Romero is the next player booked for a late tackle on Trezeguet.

37 min: Recoba tries to release the breaking Sorondo but Barthez is smartly out to the edge of the area to collect as Sorondo arrives.

35 min: Petit takes the free kick and curls it round the wall but it hits the outside of the post.

34 min: Vieira surges down field and wins a free kick off Romero 25 yards from goal.

32 min: Varela wins a corner on the right but Recoba's ball is far too long and goes out behind the goal-line.

31 min: Wiltord takes on Dario Rodriguez down the right and when his first cross is blocked, his second is headed over the top by Trezeguet.

29 min: France are stunned by Henry's red card and Uruguay raid down the right again but Silva cannot keep the ball in play.

27 min: Recoba takes the free kick but it's an easy save for Barthez.

26 min: Vieira fouls Recoba and the Inter Milan man's free kick is played too short for Marcelo Romero and Henry chases the loose ball but raises his studs in the tackle and is sent off.

24 min: Recoba nutmegs Vieira and sends over a testing ball which Desailly helps backwards and Barthez again thumps clear.

22 min: Recoba slips Candela and tries to release Abreu but Barthez comes to the edge of his area to boot clear.

20 min: Sorondo makes a break down the right and Lizarazu cuts out the cross at the expense of a corner.

18 min: Silva makes a break down the right and sends over a deep ball which finds Alvaro Recoba whose first-time shot from 20 yards is blocked by Barthez's legs.

17 min: Frank Leboeuf hobbles off injured and France bring on Vincent Candela at right-back and Thuram moves to the middle of defence.

16 min: Petit chips a ball into the box which Henry controls on his thigh but his first-time volley is blocked.

15 min: Lizarazu is tripped by Dario Silva on the left touchline but after working a quick free kick, the Bayern full-back sends over a cross which Carini claims.

14 min: Garcia's next contribution is a thumping tackle on Vieira and is promptly booked but the Arsenal man eventually gets to his feet.

12 min: A shot through a sea of legs by Pablo Garcia is Uruguay's first attempt on goal but Fabien Barthez saves comfortably.

11 min: Vieira and Micoud make another powerful surge and Micoud's threaded pass releases Trezeguet but the offside flag is up again as Fabian Carini races from goal to dive at the striker's feet.

10 min: Wiltord seeing a lot of the ball slips a pass inside to Petit, whose chip floats over the Uruguay defence and is hooked in by Trezeguet but the flag is up for offside.

9 min: Vieira feeds Micoud whose chip down the middle is only inches away from the inrushing David Trezeguet.

8 min: Henry wins a corner on the right and Emmanuel Petit's short kick finds Wiltord twisting cleverly in the box and clipping over a cross that Montero heads away.

7 min: Lizarazu loses out to Sebastian Abreu but Marcel Desailly is around to mop up.

6 min: Varela bundles over Henry for a French free kick but Patrick Vieira's ball to Wiltord is covered well by the alert Montero.

5 min: Sylvain Wiltord picks up Lilian Thuram's pass down the right channel but a a timely tackle by Gonzalo Sorondo halts his progress.

4 min: Paolo Montero launches a long ball downfield for Gustavo Varela and Bixente Lizarazu comes across to cover.

2 min: Thierry Henry gets space down the left but his pull-back is hacked clear by the Uruguay defence.

1 min: Mexican referee Felipe Ramos Rizo blows the whistle to get the match under way with the losers are on their way out of the World Cup.

Pre-match: French inspiration Zinedine Zidane is still not fit to start and his first-match replacement Youri Djorkaeff is also injured so Johan Micoud earns a call to the attacking midfield slot. That's the only change from the side beaten 1-0 by Senegal while Uruguay have Marcelo Romero replacing Roma's Gianni Guigou.
