Rivaldo should be punished by FIFA for his playacting against Turkey, claims Spain's Ivan Helguera.

Helguera was disgusted by the way Rivaldo reacted when Blackburn's Hakan Unsal kicked the ball at him near the end of Brazil's 2-1 victory over Turkey in Munsu Stadium.

The ball hit the Barcelona star's legs, but he fell to the ground holding his face - just to make sure the referee would show Hakan the red card.

Helguera condemned Rivaldo's behaviour and he would like to see FIFA sanction him.

The Real Madrid midfielder said: "I don't like what Rivaldo did whatsoever. It's not up to me to decide, but if it were then I think he should be sanctioned."

Helguera's opinion is perhaps coloured by the rivalry between Barca and Real and Rivaldo's club-mate at the Nou Camp, Luis Enrique, was quick to defend him.

Luis Enrique did not see the incident on television, but he claimed Rivaldo has always behaved well on and off the pitch.

"I can't criticise Rivaldo," he said. "The Rivaldo I know is a great professional and I admire his conduct.

"He has always been perfect on and off the pitch."
