FIFA disciplinary officials will meet on Wednesday to deliver their verdict on Brazilian star Rivaldo for faking an injury that led to an opponent being sent off.

The Barcelona midfielder is likely to be fined for the incident, which led to Turkey's Blackburn defender Hakan Unsal being dismissed after kicking the ball at Rivaldo while he was waiting to take a corner.

The ball struck his leg but he collapsed clutching his face and afterwards admitted he made a meal of it.

A disciplinary commission had been due to rule on the incident on Tuesday but have postponed their meeting until Wednesday.

FIFA communications director Keith Cooper said: "We have gone into the World Cup making it clear there will be a clampdown on simulation, which is FIFA-speak for cheating.

"If the disciplinary commission think there is sufficient cause they will take a second or third look at any incident and rule accordingly."

Rivaldo is likely to face a fine rather than a suspension - any player booked for diving is now fined £1,000 automatically.

He said following Brazil's 2-1 victory: "Obviously I exaggerated the incident for the guy to be sent off. The ball hit my hand and leg but that kind of attitude [by Unsal] must not be allowed on the pitch. He deserved a red card."

Cooper confirmed the commission will not discuss rescinding Unsal's one-game ban for the red card, saying: "That's not open to question, solely Rivaldo's reaction, at the reaction to him being struck somewhere below the waist."

The Turkish full-back became the 100th player dismissed at World Cups since the first tournament in 1930 but not the 100th red card - they were only introduced in 1970.
