Everton boss David Moyes will be talent spotting at China's Group C opener
against Costa Rica on Tuesday - and the man in his sights is almost certainly
Chinese player of the year Li Tie.
The midfielder is currently being chased by Southampton - where he has already
had a trial - and Newcastle, who have offered a trial after the World Cup.
Now Moyes could be poised to jump in for the industrious 24-year-old, who has
been capped 60 times and valued at around the same £2million mark that
Manchester City paid for China captain Sun Jihai.
Moyes will be amongst the crowd at the most momentous match in China's
football history, their first at the World Cup finals, which will be beamed back
to a television audience of one billion back home.
An Everton spokesman has confirmed Moyes will be at the match and China's
Dundee defender Fan Zhiyi, formerly of Crystal Palace, is one player who would
like a crack at the Premiership.
Zhiyi said: "Of course I want to get back into the English game and play in
the Premiership. My agent is talking to clubs."
The match at the Gwangju Stadium between the two unfancied sides in Group C
will also see club-mates Jihai and Paulo Wanchope come up against each other.
Wanchope has not played since February due to an ankle injury and it is feared
he may not last 90 minutes, but the Costa Rica forward is looking forward to
coming face to face with Jihai.
Wanchope, who has not yet played alongside the China player due to his
lay-off, said: "We are both at City but have only trained together. It will be
good to play against each other."
