Man of the match: Roque Santa Cruz. If anyone deserved to be on the winning side it was Santa Cruz. His goal capped a sound all-round display which marked him out as a definite star of the future.

61 min: Fortune lifts the ball in from the left to McCarthy but he's stretching too much to be able to convert at the back post.

60 min: The pace of the game has dropped since Paraguay's second goal. The South Americans are clearly in the driving seat so it's down to South Africa to press.

55 min: GOAL - ARCE. Arce curls the free-kick right into the top corner of Arendse's net giving the South African keeper no chance.

52 min: Fortune powers down the left and lays it off to Zuma. He cuts inside on to his right foot and shoots, but his effort is always rising too much.
