OLSEN STILL FEARS FRANCE
Denmark coach Morten Olsen watched his side beat Uruguay 2-1 to move top of World Cup Group A - but then claimed France are still his favourites to finish in pole position.
Denmark have a three-point advantage over France following the world champions' shock defeat to Senegal and Olsen feels they are still the big danger.
"France are still the favourites for me," he said.
"They knew in their first game that Senegal had nothing to lose and that it would be difficult for them.
"And when you see the way Senegal played, it was difficult for them.
"It would be very difficult for any team to beat such a wall of players and they defended very well.
"So I still think France are the favourites and maybe Denmark and Senegal will have to play for the second place."
Former Newcastle striker Jon Dahl Tomasson was the Denmark hero and he scored both goals - a header in each half in the Munsu Stadium.
His first just before the interval was cancelled out in spectacular fashion by Uruguay's Dario Rodriguez before he headed home the winner eight minutes from time.
Olsen said: "I think he has continued on where he left off for Feyenoord at the end of last season and that is what he has shown in training.
"He is in marvellous form, but then it is not only Jon Dahl Tomasson, but many players who have peaked.
"Overall this was the first game for us and a marvellous beginning."
Tomasson, who also scored in Feyenoord's UEFA Cup final win, was delighted with his brace.
"It was really important to get three points after Senegal won against France and to score two goals was a great achievement and I'm very proud," he said.
"The first was a really good goal with Jesper Gronkjaer and I played a one-two with him and it was a brilliant ball back.
"The second one was a brilliant ball by Martin Jorgensen, a nice header from me and end of story.
"It was perfect to score two goals in the World Cup and I'm very proud."
Denmark's joy was marred by the news that Bolton's Stig Tofting has a suspected broken bone in his left foot.
He said: "I feel that there might be something broken in my left foot.
"I've been suffering that for some time and as a precaution I will be having an X-ray."
Uruguay coach Victor Pua know feels it is now do or die for his side against France on Thursday.
"We now have a very big game against France and I'm going to give everything against France," he said.
"We know what we have to do now. Denmark are a good team, but I would not say technically, but more physically."
Pua also explained that he took star player Alvaro Recoba off near the end when it was still 1-1 because he was tired with the heat.
