Kasey Keller's elbow injury will not rule him out of the USA's opening match against Portugal in Suwon on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old Tottenham keeper hurt his left elbow during training but tests revealed nothing more than bruising and USA coach Bruce Arena is confident he will be fit in time.

Keller is locked in a battle for the number one shirt with Premiership rival Brad Friedel, of Blackburn Rovers.

"Kasey's injury, from what I understand at the moment, is nothing that we need to be concerned about in the long term," said Arena.

"It's short term. We have to see how he responds to treatment."

Arena hinted that he might use Keller and Friedel during the tournament.

"They are both quality keepers and I think you'll see in this World Cup that there is going to be a number of countries that are going to use more than one goalkeeper."
