Shinji Ono's exertions in Holland with Feyenoord have left him so tired that he is planning on sitting out Japan's first World Cup game against Belgium.

Ono looked worn out against Sweden in their 1-1 draw on Saturday and afterwards had to make a precautionary trip to the hospital because of stomach cramps.

The Japanese open up their campaign in Saitama against the Red Devils.

"I'm afraid that I have to miss the first match against Belgium," he told the De Gelderlander newspaper. "I feel very tired."

Ono emerged as one of his club's best players at the end of the season and started in the UEFA Cup final win over Borussia Dortmund.

National team coach Philippe Troussier will be sweating over the fitness of his player as he also prepares to face Russia and Tunisia in Group H.
