In making his debut at the age of 17, Ichikawa became Japan's youngest international.

He was so impressive on his bow that he almost made Japan's 1998 World Cup squad - but his lack of experience was probably the key factor in him missing out.

Since then he has become a mainstay in the Shimizu side and a regular international performer.

A speedy left-sided player who always looks to have time on the ball, Ichikawa could well catch the eye of European scouts this summer.
