Still rebuilding his career after a double blow cost him his place in both the Russia side and at Spartak Moscow.
A mistake in the Euro 2000 qualifier against the Ukraine cost Russia a place in the finals and Filimonov his place in the starting line-up.
He was then forced out of Spartak by the arrival of Maxim Levitsky and moved on to Uralan Elista.
