He may have started his career as a goalkeeper, but the Parma man is now most definitely a midfielder going to this summer's finals.
Starting at lowly Digne, he moved on to Marseille's B team before making a move up to OM's first string.
After a successful stint here, he moved on to Sampdoria for a new challenge and then to Parma in 1998.
Once in Serie A, regarded at that time as the top league in the world, recognition came from the French national side, and despite injuries hindering his spell in Italy, he now has 25 caps.
Expected to move on after this summer's finals, the hard-working midfielder is likely to prove a useful squad member in the Far East.
