has shown tremendous character to put that behind him in a career noted for
consistency. An articulate figure who believes he has benefited from working
with Steve McClaren at Middlesbrough, he offers a capable - and possibly, some
would argue, more consistent - alternative to Campbell.
Moved to the Riverside Stadium last summer from Aston Villa for around £6million, one of the best value buys of the year.
His superbly consistent displays on Teesside have forced him right back into the reckoning.
First sprang to prominence as a ball-playing defender with Crystal Palace, and moved to Villa from there.
