league background who has risen to great heights in the Republic scheme since
making his debut against Czech Republic in August 1996. Equally comfortable at
full-back or centre-half, he possesses vital leadership qualities and purposeful
calm. Back to fitness now after a groin injury that required surgery and
sidelined him for much of last season.
