The Anderlecht centre-back took over the club captaincy following the departure of Lorenzo Staelens to Japan in 2000 and is an accomplished centre-back with Champions League experience.
Was dropped from the squad after he organised a vote of confidence against his club coach Aime Anthuenis in February, but was later reinstated.
Formerly with Mechelen, de Boeck will be appearing at his second World Cup finals.
