FABIAN O'NEILL

Position: Midfield
Born: 14.10.73
Club: Perugia

A canny attacking midfielder, Fabian O'Neill has yet to fulfil the burgeoning reputation he brought to Italy's Serie A when he arrived at Cagliari in the summer of 1995.

Made his name in his native land with Nacional after making his debut in 1992 as a precocious 18-year-old.

The six-footer spent five seasons there before Cagliari splashed out a substantial fee to bring him to Italy.

Played well over 100 Serie A games for the Sardinian club and scored 12 goals, which was competent if unspectacular in a struggling team.

As Cagliari slipped into Serie B, Turin giants Juventus stepped in with a shock move.

O'Neill spent most of his time at the Stadio delle Alpi on the bench though he did manage to rack up 15 appearances, often in Coppa Italia games.

Last summer, O'Neill left Juventus in a £3m move to Serie A rivals Perugia and eventually broke his scoring duck in March with one of the goals in the 2-0 win over Torino.
