GONZALO SORONDO

Position: Defender
Born: 10.09.79
Club: Defensor Sporting

Tough-tackling stopper Gonzalo Sorondo is expected to be the next export to the major European leagues.

Sorondo has been deputising at centre-back for his rugged team-mate Paolo Montero in recent Uruguay international matches and is set to make a defensive berth his own this summer.

His outstanding form has now prompted the interest of Spanish rivals Valencia and Deportivo who could well tie up a deal for the 22-year-old after the World Cup.

The Montevideo-born defender did go on to Milan giants Internazionale earlier in the season but spent much of his six months there on the bench and returned to his club Defensor Sporting prior to the World Cup.

Well over six feet tall, he was intended to be Laurent Blanc's replacement at Inter but could yet blossom into a top defender at this summer's tournament.
