Kovtun - sent off at Euro 96 (Allsport).
YURI KOVTUN
Position: Defender
Born: 05.01.70
Club: Spartak Moscow
The 32-year-old Spartak Moscow defender played in eight of Russia's ten qualifying games.
A vital part of the side at the back, the former Dinamo Moscow player went to Euro 96 but blotted his copybook by being sent off against Germany at Old Trafford.
He has also come in for some criticism in the run-up to the finals, with Russia's defence not standing up to tests against Estonia and the Republic of Ireland.
Things improved with a goalless draw against the world champions France in April, but Kovtun missed that game due to a knee injury.
Should still be a vital component in Russia's squad though, particularly with his experience.
