It is not difficult to recognise Santos in Japan's squad.
Of South American origin, he was born in Brazil but gained Japanese nationality last year and soon won a place in Philippe Troussier's squad.
Often known simply by the one name - Alex - Santos went to play in the J-League as a teenager and has stayed with Shimizu S-Pulse.
Free-scoring from his wide midfield or wing-back role, Santos has a J-League strike rate of just over one goal in every three games – very good for a non-striker.
With typical Brazilian skills, he could well make an impact at this summer's tournament.
