Whilst his compatriot Ma Mingyu became the first Chinese player to move to Serie A, this Beijing-born forward created his own little bit of history when signing for Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.
During his spell at Beijing Guoan he was not particularly well-known, especially by the international selectors.
But upon his joining Frankfurt, he managed to force his way into the national side's reckoning by actually featuring for the Eintracht first-team.
And whilst his chances were again limited, he did manage to make an impact with a series of goals.
His form in Germany did not go un-noticed and he was called up to the China side, for whom he has been a regular ever since.
Unfortunately, Eintracht have since been relegated from the German top-flight, but this has not hampered his selection for the international side, who see his experience in Europe as a vital ingredient in the team.
