Picture Vonk - expected to be first-choice keeper. (Allsport)

HANS VONK

Position: Goalkeeper
Born: 30.01.70
Club: Heerenveen

Hans Vonk has made the goalkeeping position his own over the last twelve months, after succeeding veteran stopper Andre Arendse.

The 32-year-old excelled between the posts in the Bafana's African Nations Cup campaign in Mali, conceding only one goal in the group stage.

Playing his domestic football in Holland for Heerenveen, Vonk first made an impression upon the international arena in May 1998 when he debuted for his country in a friendly against Zambia, which ended 1-1.

Vonk faces pressure from his 22-year-old understudy Emile Baron - who has impressed at Norwegian side Lillehammer - but is likely to be the first-choice keeper in East Asia.

His presence and confidence will be crucial as he and his defensive colleagues line up against some of the most potent attackers in the world in a group including Spain, Paraguay and Slovenia.
